Kittens are funny. When you talk to people about philosophy don?t expect curt responses. 😉

Perhaps there is a higher truth to be found here. What if, for example, God really does kill a kitten every time...? What does this say about kittens and their place in the universe, and how they relate to God? Perhaps this is something that relates directly to the human condition; we are all kittens, in a sense.

The practice of ?philosophy? can be done by anyone, anywhere. The only requirement is a cognitive ability. But ?Philosophy? is a communal activity. I think that the public aspect is a necessary condition for the discipline of philosophy.

The public aspect also bastardizes Philosophy (as an academic discipline). It would be otherwise if scholars were praised for their ability to bring new approaches or solutions to philosophical problems, simpliciter; but then there is also the politics of academia and the fact that "philosophers" are professors that have to teach and, to enough of an extent, cater to the audience. By the time one gets tenure, they've already been selected as someone who is probably going to draw or retain student enrolment by their sheer popularity, not by their intellectual prowess (though the two are not mutually exclusive).
