AGP Price Drop/War?

Best price I can find on the 850XT PE is $396 and thats using pricegrabber.com. Didnt see the 7900GS listed anywhere using pricegrabber.com. So, I'm thinking that when it comes to the question of 850XT PE or the 7900GS one should choose the cheapest price they can find it at.

There is also the question of supply. I'm wondering if the AGP supply will dry up totally. Logic would say it will as PCIe becomes more mainstream. So far ATI isnt showing any attention to adding newer cards to the AGP spectrum but nVidia has with the 7900GS. As time goes on those people wanting to stay with AGP (and there are many that do it seems) might have to look more towards nVidia than ATI. It'll be interesting wether there will be any further competition between ATI and nVidia in the AGP market. I kinda think nVidia made the 7900GS not only to support its AGP consumers but to also tweak ATI's nose.
 
The 7800GS you mean. Look at newegg, its selling for $299 right now. I think the prices are going to go down a bit. I think this is great for AGP users (my NW P4 is still doing great 😀).

btw X850XT PEs in newegg are going for 399~ unless people are looking for refurbed ones.
 
7800GS= bad part. Yes, its the best performing part right now, but its still a bad part. I don't know why this release is getting so much debate.

Well, moving a supply of substandard G70 cores at a big premium before the G71 comes out is pure genius too. The 7800GS would have some stiff competition at the $200 pricepoint if it was PCIe, but for AGP users there is little other choice. $400 for a 2+ generation old product from ATI? 12 pipe 6800 for $220? Shyeah right.

They probably noticed how ATI is still able to move their vast overstock of X800 series cores into the AGP market, and decided to kill several birds with one stone. Cut off Ati's air supply in the high end AGP segment, and make a killing on cores they couldn't otherwise move. While still providing enough incentive for people to move to PCIe by making sure the AGP part is infereor to equivalently priced PCIe hardware.

NV is a really well run company with brilliant people. Let's see if there's anyone home at ATI.
