AGP 7800GS

the reason why that's so expensive is 'cause you can overclock that to a near 7800 GTX. But I guess, the price is still not worth it. If That's the case, I'll rather upgrade my mobo to PCIe and pair it w/ 7800 GT.

That's a minimum of $520. What if the 7800GS was $300?

Says who? This is AGP we're talking about here, not PCI-E. As far as I know, nobody has written a review on the AGP 7800GS or mentioned any overclocking results, so it's too early to claim what it is or isn't capable of.

Having said that, there is no-way this card is worth nearly $400 dollars.

Based on the stock specs of the AGP 7800GS, other then the core size, this card is the same core speed and pipes as the AGP 6800GT. I doubt it's "twice as fast" as the 6800GS, especially if you unlock the 6800GS... yet the price would make you think it should be.

I'd like to see somebody test the AGP 7800GS and let us know what it is capable of... however review sites seem to have forgotten AGP users, and at $400 smackers, I doubt any budget-concious AGP-owner is going to be silly enough to buy one of these. If you're an AGP user, you're better off buying a 6800GS and unlocking it (for half the price), or try and find a 6800GT for a reasonable price.
 
i say wait til the card is offically released "feb 9th ETA according to PC superstore" , and of course the price will be high for a "new" high-end AGP, who wouldn't expect it to be. also $395 coming from a e-tailer that doesn't have it yet. i'm sure we'll be seeing <-$369 once the card truly hits the market and more e-tailers get a hold of it.
 
I'm not an expert on the GF7 core, but stats-wise, core clock and pipes are identical to the 6800GT or 6800GS (unlocked). I'm a firm believer in "price to performance". Unless this card can overclock and/or unlock like crazy (and I have no idea), based on it's stock stats, I don't think this card should cost more then $300-$320, given the price of the 6800GS currently.

Of course, I don't control price of video cards, so I'm sure the retailers will blow me off and charge whatever they think will sell (even if it's ridicuously too much).

it should be using a G70 NV47core 110nm=more efficient/cooler, it's the same core as the GT/GTX. i see this card having plenty OC headroom🙂
 
At any rate, thank you Nvidia for remembering us AGP owners, I'm due for a new card, NFS MW is punishing my current card
 
Awesome, can't wait till its officially released and NDA lifts so we can get it at reasonable prices of 300$ or so, if it doesn't get to 300 (320$ tops) or lower I'll just buy a 6800GS>

$520? $265 GT and a $100 mobo. $100 more for a CPU but you can easily sell the old stuff to set off some costs
 
Not only that but AGP cards will take a massive dump when the technology is really outdated.

I think the price will drop fast. On sale anyway. And remember that the prices of cards are wide-ranging sometimes. Like the 850XT that you can find from $200-$450 (AGP or PCI-E)

So let's not panic yet.

And to those who say, "Just upgrade to PCI-E," you have to remember that some of us have valuable CPUs and can't replace them for a mere 100 or so bucks.
Beside I'll be getting this when I upgrade to PCI-E. So no rush to PCI-e for me but an upgrade is viable to those running weak procs that can be easily replaced.
 
Apparently someone had already picked up a 7800GS AGP at CompUSA. Here is the link to Hardforum were the guy talks about his purchase and he even has pics. Cost of the BFG 7800GS OC AGP? $349
