Age of video game players? or "am I too old?"

With the recent price drops, I'm interested in getting a new game console (probably Xbox). I'm an old (30-ish) gamer going back to the early-80's arcade and home consoles. My last system was a dreamcast and I *loved* the 2k1 football game. I love football games and some first person shooters. And my yound child has started to show an interest in her friend's Playstation.

So my question: is it silly for a 30-ish guy to to buy an Xbox as a toy?

 
Silly? No. Silly is when you think that you're too old to do something you enjoy. If you like pokemon go buy a pokemon game too.
 
Not at all. My Dad is coming up to 50 and he plays games (which I think kicks ass 😀), he played Halo with me, Unreal Tournament, Counter-Stike.

Age should never determine your passion for video games! Silly, no way. Keeping the kid, inside you, alive is always a good thing and don't forget that. 😀
 
30-ish is not old! Go ahead and buy an Xbox. I think you pretty much described the game you want and the games they have for the Xbox.

Your kid will think your are cool because of you play games. 🙂

Any idea how old John Carmack is? Not only is he a Game God, but he probably plays his games more than more of us. 😉 😀

My 68-year-old dad has played through Doom 1 & 2, Blake Stone, and the original Wolf3D.

My 64-year-old mom was played through the above plus Blood 1, Hexen/Heretic/HexenII, Quake2, Half-Life and is working on Unreal Gold now.

So no. 🙂
 
Definately not too old.
I'm 28 and I'll keep playing until I die or become too disabled.

no, i am going to buy one in a couple months ( i am 36)
my last console was a Sega Genesis, paid $200 for it in ~1990?
 
I thought the main benefit of having children was the ability to buy toys again and have a valid excuse for doing so. 🙂 Just remember if your kid shows the slightest interest in something you would like to use promptly buy it and say it's for the kid. 🙂
 
Definitely not! I'm in my early 30's and I have one in my bedroom. Sometimes my wife joins in and plays. She likes SSX Tricky. Not only that, but the kids have a Nintendo64 (which will be traded in soon for a Gamecube) and I have three computers with games on them, to boot. Sure I don't play them as much as I used to, but they are usually more enjoyable than plopping my rear end in front of the TV just staring at the screen. At least there is interaction.

Hell no, most of my friends have a console of some kind (I'm 31). Fun is fun...who cares how old you are?

Hey, Im 60 and I play on line games and a few against the computer. My favorite is Unreal and some days I get my head handed to me and some days I cant be beat. Who cares???? Its all for fun. Play from the Dungeon so no one can see you and under an alias.
