I could go on about the problems but this is what ill simply say. If you are looking for a mmo to take over a current mmo that you plan on playing for over a year, then this game isnt for you. If you are looking to level up and immerse yourself for a while into a fantasy world until warhammer or another mmo comes out then by all means sign up but for all of you looking for a buddy key to see if this game is worth it. It is early on. The game is fantastic and no doubt you will end up buying the game. The game doesnt dissapoint until you have spent a little more time with it. Also I understand its a mmo in early stages and they all have there fair share of problems but this game has a ways to go before it starts to shine for the long haul.
Yeah, I think this sums it up well. If you're just looking to have some fun and explore a very cool world, AoC is great. Even at the lowest levels, you don't kill rats or snakes. For the first 50 or so level, it's really an excellent game. Players are generally pretty strong against mobs so you can level reasonably quickly and you feel powerful. The world itself has great detail and a lot of interesting and fun quests. Plus, you don't have to kill any rats. Conall's Valley is a great early level zone, more or less The Barrens of AoC but a lot more interesting. Diverse terrain, lots of cool quests, and the Ymir area is really a ton of fun with a lot of frenetic fighting and good times. Did I mention you don't have to kill a single rat?
Things really start breaking down once you leave Field of the Dead at 50ish, though. It's just a straight grind all the way to 80 from there on. There are still a lot of quests, but from that point on they're all basically just kill quests and you'll grab a few repeatable bounty quests to level on for the most part. There are three zones you'll spend the vast majority of your time in from 50 to 80: Eiglophian Mountains --> Atzel's Approach --> Kheshatta.
Once you hit the 50+ grind, it's basically the same quests and grinds repeated
ad nauseum all the way to 80. Once you hit Kheshatta at 70ish you're either on the giving or receiving end of a gank squad as you try to grind out levels, assuming you're on a PvP server. The game would be suffocatingly boring on a PvE server post-50. Once you hit 80, you're either on a gank squad or you're grinding resources/gold/items. There's no more exploration or really anything at all interesting to check out.
I won't go much into PvP because I canceled a few weeks ago and there've been several major patches out since then, but a few weeks ago, one-shot kills were pretty common from roughly half the classes in the game. It looks like they tried to do so nerfing to cut that down, but judging by the forums it doesn't seem to have made much difference.
