Aftermarket vehicle warranty

I'm considering one for my 2000 Chevy Venture van @ 65,000 miles.

A google search tells me:

-US Fidelis is widely panned as a scam.

stoprepairbills.com appears to be a clearing house for many warranty providers.

Any AT'ers ever bought a warranty like this?

only company i would trust is warranty direct. there are a few other legit ones, but not many. they are one of the few that are reputable out there. my mom gets a ton of other solicitations in the mail that are for extended car warranty and i can't help but to think that they are all scams.

i have a warranty direct extended warranty with my car.

My first thought is that anyone who would warranty an eight year old vehicle is nuts, so it has to be crooked. 😀

Yea I still get those post cards saying it's my last chance to extend my warranty cause mine is expiring. Mine expired about 5 years ago.

I keep getting these annoying VMs saying my car is out of warranty and to get an extended one from these bozos. My car is brand new.

I know those jerks at swapalease.com sold my info to these guys so if anyone is tempted to use them, give them a fake address and number.

The local GM dealer I bought the van from is being a tool and telling me they only accept the GM PP extended warranty. Fuckers...

Can't agree more! I have purchased two Warranty Direct contracts for two vehicles and they have yet to disappoint. They have paid out OVER 200% of what I paid for the warranty in the first place. Very good deal in my case!

Me, too, but it's got nothing to do with a car warranty, it is a scam--google it on the net. Plug their number in, those damn crooks keep changing their numbers constantly. I did actually talk to one of them once and after she asked for my VIN I said that a flying saucer doesn't have one. It took me repeating that two or three times before she finally realized I was fvcking with her. Damn douche, I hate that company and those deserve-to-die scum who keep calling people in a patently illegal manner.

I've had fun with the "sweet, I just got this car on craig's list, its a perfect candidate" approach with these morons. Describe a transmission thats about to detonate, bald front tires, a severe pull to the left, windows that only kinda work etc then see if they still want your business 🙂

Just don't mention the numbers painted on the sides, otherwise they'll know that everything is abuse so they won't cover a single thing.

I'm convinced they work with the cell phone companies to drive up your cell phone usage so they can rook you for extra charges and, of course, scam you out of money for some useless "warranty" that they'll never honor anyway. Both my wife and I get these calls ever couple months and her car is still in warranty.

If you ever had to deal with any of the aftermarket extended warranties, you'd agree with them.

They all suck, no exceptions. Some suck less than others.

First Extended, Smart Choice (if they're still around) are two that sucked less, but still sucked.

They are all, without exception, a huge pain in the ass for dealers to work with. They have idiots on their hotlines that ask all sorts of stupid questions, they seem to always want to question the book times (always seem to have the "same" book you do but it has different times), parts prices, labor rates (who the hell are they to tell me what hourly rate I can charge?), etc, etc.

They take forever to get through to, take forever to take your info and give you approval. They love to send inspectors out to take pics and assess the carnage if you have a tranny, engine or other drivetrain problem. So that makes the dealer look like the bad guy, because they have to tell the customer that HE needs to approve the tear down, and the warranty company won't authorize the repair until it's torn down and their guy inspects it. So the customer has to essentially commit to paying for the repair before he finds out whether it's covered or not.

Lots of them exclude collateral damage. Such as, a transmission sun gear fails, and metal gets circulated throughout the transmission. Generally, it's a very good idea to replace or at least rebuild the valve body, replace the torque converter, and whatever else is remotely questionable after such a failure. But they won't pay for that. Only the failed part, which is B.S.

I've seen many times they paid for a tranny overhaul, but not the fluid. WTF? Or they wouldn't pay for the gaskets...just the hard parts. Stupid stuff.

Seen many times they finally approve a job, and agree on an exact price. You get the job done, fax them the bill with everything like they agreed to, and they're to call back with a corporate credit card # for your cashier. And they call back, and authorize less than you agreed upon, even though everything is perfect.
Or they don't call back that same day, the customer shows up to get the car that evening, and it's not paid for. And they're pissed at you because you can't release it without payment, and it's THEIR warranty company that's the holdup.

And on and on and on.

Factory warranties are the only way to go. The second-best way, is an aftermarket warranty that is sold by the dealer. Even if the car you bought isn't the same brand the dealer sells, you take your car to them, and they sub it to that brands' local dealer. (e.g., you buy a Chevy from a Ford dealer, it breaks, you take it to them and they send it to a Chevy shop to get fixed)

If you have an 8 year old car, you're already playing with house money. Don't waste yours on a warranty. Just put whatever money the warranty costs in the bank for your emergency repair fund.

dont listen to those assholes. just go to warrantydirect.com and sign up. you can take your car to any dealer i think. i'm not too sure how new your car has to be before you sign up. make sure you read the fine print

edit: i just noticed that you are the OP. if its for the 2000 car i'd say just screw it and do what the guy above me said and just put money in an emergency fund .

I swear, every day I get 10 calls saying my vehicle's warranty is expired or w/e. Someone needs to investigate who this is, track them down and flog them.

If the dealer will accept and deal with the warranty company.

I pay $7 a month to Geico for an extended warranty. I don't think there is a better deal anywhere else -- it does have a $250 deductible on repairs though, but is good through the lifetime of the car. 🙂

100% true on all counts....we wont deal with them either, all they do is tie up a bay for days, then end up paying half what the job would cost....

who needs the aggravation.
