After giving homeless dude $7 for a meal, he gets mad at me?!

So yeah...I'm sitting outside on my lunch (I work downtown) to get some sun. These two homeless guys walk up to me and ask for money. I ask them what they need it for; they give me their schpeal. I ask them to promise not to use the money for drugs or alcohol; they promise. I get out my wallet, and I have $17 in there. I give them a $5 and two $1s - my remaining bill is a $10. I hand them $7, plenty to get a bite to eat in almost any restaruant in the area. One guy takes it graciously, and shakes my hand. But the other guy gets mad at me for not giving him the rest of my money?! :Q He starts huffing and puffing and calling me a cheapskate. I couldn't believe it?! Here I am, certainly no saint, but giving my hard-earned, God given money to these guys...and this guy is chastising me for not giving him more?! I got really pissed off in about 1 second, but I kept my cool. The one thankful one, pulled the other away and they walked down the street. I've never seen someone so ungrateful in my life....it made me sad for him.

Anyone experience anything like this??

I don't know about you, but when I'm begging on the streets for crack money I get pissed at anyone that gives me less than $50.

These guys could be some of the full-time professional panhandlers like we have here in Seattle. They're even organized to work the good areas in shifts.

If you want to help the needy, food banks, salvation army, united way are all much safer ways to give and make sure your money goes to people who want and need help instead of grifters.

Here in Austin we have them at every major intersection and it is soooo annoying! I never give them money but I did once give them some food. This of course is NOT what they wanted and proceeded to gripe at me.

So much for being gracious... but yeah, fat chance they were planning to buy a Happy Meal at McDonalds with the $7.

Next time just give the money to me 😛

Edit
I 5th not giving money next time too

I'll continue to show these homeless guys love by giving to those who ask or need it. Even if they misuse it/are ungrateful for it behind my back.

You handled that completely wrong. You should have asked him for all the money he's made begging that day.

Here are the counter-replies.

Him: "I don't have any."
You: "Then your technique is lacking."

Him: "Why would I give it to you?"
You: "Why would I give my money to you?"

I can't think of anything he could say at that point that you couldn't retort. If push came to shove, you could just send him scuba diving in the local mall's wishing well.

Nope, I don't give money to street beggers. They just end up going to buy a bottle of mad dog 20/20 with it.

I think $7 was plenty. It's a known fact that you should never give a homeless a cent, b/c then your begging for a trouble (it's considered an insult). But 50 cents or a dollar and of course more are OK!

I give them money all the time. At least the booze or drugs will make them happy for a short period of time. It is not like they have a long life expectancy.
