After I bought my present car I gave my 91 Acura Integra to my brother. So after a year and 1/2 after I gave it to him it starts having major engine problems. I'm not surprised since the car has over 250,000 miles on it and the engine taken to redline god knows how many times.

Well I found him a replacement motor for $1530 shipped. The shop had it put in for $1140 which includes a few replacement parts (timing belt, water pump...ect). And best of all it now has VTEC which it didn't before. Can't wait to test drive it and hear that vtec wailing but the car not going any faster:D when I go back home this weekend.

$3k seems like a lot to put into a 15 year old car.

But maybe that's just me.

It was my brother, not me. I did think the same but hey with a new motor this car can be passed on once again to the next brother.;)

I'd agree it wasn't the wisest decision but tell me where he can find another car for $2600 with only 30k miles on the engine and transmission? Trust me I've looked into another car before he had this done. Sure there were hundreds of cars in this price range but everyone of them were over 100k in mileage.

Word...especially when you can just buy a decent condition 92-95 Civic for that price...

...and then sell it for almost as much a couple years from now

Take resale into consideration...you can buy a decent condition 95 Civic for around $2600, then sell it for $2000 in three years.

How much will an 18-year-old Integra with 250k on the odo (albeit w/receipts showing the engine's only got 30k on it) sell for in 2009?

95 civics are not 2600 first of all.

My coworker just bought a 1999 accord coupe for 5k and its in really good condition. so I find it VERY hard to believe you can't get a 95 civic for 2600.

Really? Then I must have been hallucinating when I paid $2500 for a 95 DX Coupe with around 93k miles back in 2004
