This is unacceptable! While the USA cries about our border regions being restive it is the Afghan side, controlled by the Americans that has caused one of the last single largest skirmish for years. Shouldn't the Americans have cleared Afghanistan of these terrorists in their almost 10 year old war? Does this give us the right to carry out operations inside Afghanistan as we please? How could the CIA not detect such a large movement of militants under their nose? complicity or incompetence?

Who cares? One group of terrorists killing another. Sounds better than wasting lives of civilized western nations.

Hard to believe you are blaming the CIA, the United States military, and everybody else for this failure in security within your country. Why is it the CIA's job to detect large amount of militants that are about to attack a city within your borders?

Because Pakistan is busy making sure they do a better job of harboring Ayman al Zawahiri than they did bin Laden.

Militants were driven out of Afghanistan and were able to take shelter in Pakistan.

You claimed that Pakistan is to large and wild to control the border. So the Pakistan let them be.

Now it seems that you complain about attacks from those that you gave shelter.

Well.. I guess blaming the USA is easier than Pakistan protecting their own borders. Are you guys outraged enough that you're going to take less of our money now? 'cos that would be nice.

Looks like anyone can come into Pakistan and do whatever they want, inept at best.

Your inept, bumbling government was carrying out operations in Afghanistan as they pleased using the ISI's puppets, the Taliban. You guys created the monster and are now dealing with the consequences.

From your link

"The militants had arrived in a pre-dawn operation on Wednesday dressed in military uniforms and killed one policeman."

I'm sure you would get upset if the US/CIA directed attacks on people in military uniforms. I would think it would be difficult at best to tell the difference between a Pakistani and an Afghani wearing the same uniform.

This. Although for OP it may not be a monster but jihadi freedom fighters...

Oh, now it's a "border?" The Afghan / Pakistan border has more holes in it than a colander and NOW you're bitching about it being a problem?

Shouldn't the Americans have cleared Afghanistan of these terrorists in their almost 10 year old war?

It gets hard to "clear" these terrorists out of Afghanistan when a constant supply of willing suicide bombers, fighters, and weapons come from your country into Afghanistan... across the same border you're bitching about.

Does this give us the right to carry out operations inside Afghanistan as we please?

You should probably take that up with the Afghan government, but by all means send your army into Afghanistan. This is the same army that is too afraid to enter parts of your own country to fight these people and the same army who cannot even protect military installations from insurgent strikes. So.... good luck with that.

How could the CIA not detect such a large movement of militants under their nose? complicity or incompetence?

Maybe because the CIA is too busy trying to fight what should be a ground war in your country against the army of insurgents that live in Pakistan's borders. The same insurgents your own military is too afraid to confront.

Actually, it was our government which furnished the Afghan Mujahideen with the training and weapons that bred the Taliban. Amazing how clueless AT members are.

Do these idiots from Pakistan blame someone else for everything?

6 militants held an air base from you last week for hours...maybe they figured they could take over your shitty country with a few more?

<sigh>

The Mujahideen was not monolithic. We supported them in their war vs. the Soviets and afterward, it fractured. It was Pakistan who continued propping up what became the Taliban (the radical element of the Mujahideen movement) and IIRC, they were one of only 3 countries to recognize the Taliban government. We are discussing the Taliban and their sympathizers, not the larger Mujahidden. Here is specifically what bred the Taliban and color me shocked at the bolded text:

However, the mujahideen did not establish a united government, and many of the larger mujahideen groups began to fight each other over power in Kabul. After several years of devastating fighting, a village mullah named Mohammed Omar organized a new armed movement with the backing of Pakistan. This movement became known as the Taliban ("students" in Arabic), referring to the Saudi-backed religious schools known for producing extremism. Veteran mujahideen were confronted by this radical splinter group in 1996.

Pakistan is rapidly becoming synonymous with fail. There isn't a goddamned thing that country can do right.

I think you are not apt to logical conclusions. Previously, you indicated that Pakistan and ISI created the monster, i.e. the Taliban. Your quote, even without reference, clearly states that Pakistan did not create the Taliban. A village mullah, from Afghanistan organized the Taliban movement, most likely from one of the fractured Mujahideen group, which, I repeat again was trained and furnished with weapons by our government.

As I said, the extent of cluelessness of AT members continues to astound.

No, you've clearly been owned yet again. The taliban was formed with tbe backing of pakistan. No need to try and twist words to pretend you didn't just get owned. Sorry.

The people we trained are not of fighting age, and they are using Soviet weapons.

Actually, I think you're the one that isn't apt to logical conclusions. Please, allow me to quote the relevant part:

a village mullah named Mohammed Omar organized a new armed movement with the backing of Pakistan

I'm sorry, but that quote sure sounds like Pakistan had a huge hand in creating the Taliban as I originally contended. Does anyone out there disagree?

Please give me a link where the US gave the Taliban (NOT the mujahideen, but the Taliban -- by name) material aid and trained them to take over Afghanistan and helped form them.

We get it routan -- it is just more of your usual condescending and arrogant talk. You're trying to imply that the US created the Taliban. This is a false conclusion.

Actually, you're playing around with words. Your original contention was that Pakistan and the ISI created the Taliban. Your specific words were "you guys created the monster" referring to TGB. This is now, even by your own admission, false.

As to your current claim of Pakistan having a "huge hand" in creating the Taliban, I can certainly agree, as all the military hardware paid for by my tax dollars went through Pakistan into the hands of the Afghan Mujahideen, the training by our military was done in Pakistan, and contacts and liasons were made through the Pakistan military. So yes, Pakistan certainly had a huge hand in creating the Taliban directly, only as much as we did indirectly.

I will again repeat you have not even referenced your quote. You may have probably made up the text yourself to give (false) credibility to your original claim, but in the end, it turned out that your original claim was proved wrong by your quote. ^_^
