Maniak, the problem here is that when "Pakistan" gave us permission, they weren't speaking for the population. The general who is currently in charge gave us permission, but a lot of the Pakistan population are not as moderate as that current leader. I've read (even on this board) that something like half of Pakistan support The Taliban in Afghanistan.

Paksitan still sells fuel to The Taliban, even though U.N. sanctions forbid it. Pakistan recognizes The Taliban as the rightful government of Afghanistan. So when "Pakistan" gives the United States permission to use their airspace, it does not necessarily mean that Pakistanis give us permission.

Even if Pakistan doesn't agree to let troops on its soil, the US could launch a good attack from air. Drop troops and vehicles in rebel controlled zones, seize air strips, send more tropps and vehicles...It will cost more and take longer, but its still doable.

You people have no clue what you are talking about when it comes to Pakistan. General Mushraf is pretty popular amongst the people of the nation... he has brought about the end to alot of corruption and is bringing the country on path of progress.

Something you people might not know is Musharaf has closed many Fundamentalist schools and organizations... he's jailed the leaders of these groups.

While relations with Pakistan haven't been the best recently, Pakistan is a US ally. The current Pakistani government fears and hates Bin Laden as much as we do... they realize that he has incited alot of ill feeling in their nation which can cause them to be topled. They want him gone just like everyone else.

It's true that many ignorant and illeterate people in Pakistan favor the Fundamentalists... this is why Musharaf is in delicate position on how to break news of US support.

But make no mistake, Musharaf wants Bin Laden gone... it's primarily because of that F- that Pakistan has lost American favor.
