It is definitely worth spending some time sitting in one to see if you like it. Some stores that sell them will let you take one home for a "test drive." Some people love them, some people hate them. I personally love mine. It relieved my back pain very quickly. A cheaper chair may have done the same thing, but I didn't buy a cheaper chair so I don't know.

no. they're not worth it. yes, they're amazingly ergonomically designed chairs, but unless you're in a lot of pain and this chair relieves the pain, no. it's not worth it. as capt caveman says, an exercise ball is a better chair. it works your core, which reinforces your lower back from injury.
but the aeron chairs are comfortable as crap, i'll tell you that. if you have the money to blow, get it.

I got one of these a while back and I'm still very happy with it (liked it enough to order a second for work). In general, I'd say that a quality chair is a good investment if you spend a lot of time in it, and this was definitely worth the $300 for me.
Before that I was able to borrow an Aeron for a few days. Not really enough time to give an accurate comparison, but I don't remember it being considerably better (though it was a lot more configurable). In the end I didn't think it warranted the extra $300+, but if I had it longer I might think differently.

Never heard of that site, but then I had never heard of any of the sites that sell Aerons before I bought mine. Just make sure they're an authorized reseller and you're set. The warranty (12 years) only applies if you buy from an authorized reseller. Herman Miller's website lists authorized resellers.
eits is going to love me for saying this - my Aeron replaced my chiropractor. I haven't needed to go to the chiropractor since I got my chair. And though it was expensive, it was really only as much as one chiropractor visit per year for the life of the warranty 🙂
For me, hell yes. We used them at work and I didn't even feel like I was sitting down for all those hours. Unlike some chairs where after a while, I have to change the way how I sit or something, it never happened with that chair.

No, they are overrated. The arms of the chair never like to stay up, the plastic end of the chair digs into your thighs and cuts off circulation, and it lacks a headrest. I'd like to sell the damn thing and be done with it.

Eits is kinda right...using an excersize ball will actually correct your posture over time and actually alleviate the back problems that have to do with the way you sit. The Aeron chair will probably alleviate your back problems through its ergonomics but it doesn't fix the way you sit, so if you were to sit in some inferior chair for a long period of time, your pains will probably come back. In the end, a shitty chair is a shitty chair.
That being said, the Aeron chair is super comfy and almost everything is adjustable and you can pretty much get it to feel perfect. However, there are plenty of other chairs out there that do the same...Herman Miller also makes the Embody which is said to be every more comfortable than the Aeron, though I've never tried it. And as mentioned above, Stealcase makes some excellent chairs that tend to be much simpler than Herman Miller stuff, while still maintaining the right ergonomics.

The Aeron chairs are definitely worth it, although I would expect you'll see a lot of disagreement here because the price is so steep. Certain people are going to slam the chair on price alone. Having used one at home for many years now, I'd buy another one in a second. When I shipped my Aeron out to get resurfaced (or whatever you want to call it, they put new mesh on), I used a temporary chair for a few days, not only did my back feel like shit, it scuffed up my hardwood floor in only a few days time.
The true testament to me, is that I can sit in my Aeron for 10 hours and never feel any sort of fatigue.
Edit: I'm also going to add that part of my opinion hinges on the fact that I'm 6'6. Whatever height the 'average' chair is made for, if you are that height, the cheaper chairs probably work for you a lot better than they do for me. However, a company like Herman Miller allows me to buy a chair for my height, which probably accounts for 80% of the comfort.

Sitting on one at work right now. We all got new chairs/desks after renevations and they are indeed awesome. Lots of features, nice comfy mesh, all kinds of adjustable options.. but for the $1000 these ones apparently go for I would look elsewhere especially if it's coming out of your pocket. If you can get one for under $400 I'd think about it if it's anything like mine.

yup, for work it's great...wouldn't spend THAT much at home.
I've used them at school. They are definitely more comfortable than any office chair I've used, with good support overall. If you don't mind shelling out the cash for it, get it, but I personally would rather pay less for a slightly less comfortable chair. Maybe one of the imitators are adequate, I wouldn't know.

I've had two of them at work and have never really loved them. I actually prefer the Herman Miller Mirra chairs, which are cheaper.
