I would suggest get a previous model year one since they are cheaper. That way you can get a higher amperage one.

?? Please explain?

2012 model year receivers are out, you can see if you can find 2011 models, they tend to be discounted heavily but they are not too distinct from the 2012 functionally. That way you can get a higher output model for the same money.

yea buying last years model is a good idea, year to year changes dont normally ad anything major

The Pio receivers are well liked, good value for the money, the support all the new stuff and have ample connections and all that, only downside is they use MACC vs audyssey for room correction, which is a pretty minor issue

The 1021k is last years model. It also lists 6 ohm support in the manual. Might also look for the vsx-1020k which was the 2010 model.

Main reason I'm looking to upgrade is as you can see with my previous threads, I'm looking for a powerful amp that will have no problems driving any speaker I throw at it!!!

One of the biggest hi fi stores in Australia is jb hifi , receivers are so fucking expensive over here it's not funny, that pioneer vsx 1021 is retailing fir $1182 AU that's insane right!! The worst thing is besides buying things online like eBay etc they are pretty much the cheapest hifi store in Australia!!!! So frustrating!!

that does seem insane, other popular brands are Onkyo and Denon, the Denon 1911/1912 is a solid offering the 16xx series isnt bad either, cheaper because its the lower end model.

To me the VSX1021 doesn't look much better than the VSX521, it's got more features but the amp section looks about the same, it's not going to sound any different. If you're just going to throw money around I'd advise spending on a well reviewed pair of 8 ohm speakers.

Ok, most people have been saying to upgrade the amp?? I've got plenty of descent speakers, just need a capable amp??? I have a HK av134 receiver, a pioneer vsx521, and. Sony htddwg700 and none of them are handling or driving the speakers the way I want them too just frustrated at the moment??

The problem I'm having is the vsx521 is overheating so I wanna get a amp with better power to drive the speakers

have you tried giving it more room to breath? Where is it placed?

how much is a ticket to hong kong?

another thing to check is did you set the speakers to small in the receiver setting?

Underneath my plasma television room is fairly well ventilated, only had thus problem since I've upgraded speakers, ie power ohm.

add some 12cm fans behind the receiver to draw air? Try elevating the receiver legs with small blocks of wood or something so there is a bigger space below it so heat dissipation works better.
