Adrienne Shelly found dead

so... wait.... "she was found by her husband" could mean two things...

did her husband find her dead or was she found dead next to her husband's body?

If you think it means that then you need to take a few more English classes.

actually, it's because of all the english classes that i can recognize the bolded statement above as being potentially confusing to people.

You would be correct if another party were mentioned, 'she was found dead by her husband' by the police.

In that case it would imply that she was next to her husband.

In this case though, you're wrong.

no, you're wrong. even if the police said it, that still doesn't solidify whether or not she was found dead next to her husband or if her husband found her dead and told the police.

wrong....

she was found by her husband... its passive voice, so she is the subject, her husband is the one doing the finding.... otherwise we wouldnt know who was doing the finding and would have been written by a sixth grader.

read the OP, its says she left behind a husband and daughter, jesus christ you people are really stupid sometimes

I lost my car keys this morning. My family searched all over for them. The car keys were found by the front door.

No, not the best way to phrase it, but hopefully it points to the ambiguity in the OP. Although, I also believe that despite there being two potential meanings, it'd be silly to think "by" meant "next to" in that context.

QFT!

Now is there anything mainstream this lady has done that would make me go, "No way....HER???" As of right now, I have no clue who she is, even after I read both articles that were linked above.

That's one smart door if it can find lost keys. 😉

Police: Suspect In Custody In Actress' Death

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK New York City police have a man in custody in the death of actress Adrienne Shelly, who was found hanging from a shower rod in her West Village office last Wednesday, CBS 2 News has learned.

Sources tell CBS 2?s Ti-Hua Chang a construction worker has allegedly confessed to the crime.

The worker allegedly punched the 5-foot-2 actress after she complained about the noise he was making in the West Village building where her office is located, killing her.

He then allegedly admitted to dragging the body up to her office, and positioning her in the shower to make her death look like a suicide.

The medical examiner's office had not yet ruled whether the death of the petite actress best known for her roles in the Hal Hartley films "Trust" and "The Unbelievable Truth" was a homicide or a suicide.

Police had been hesitant to label the case a suicide after no suicide note was found and sneaker prints that didn't match Shelly's shoes were found in the bathtub.

Shelly, whose birth name was Adrienne Levine, was found Wednesday evening hanging from a shower rod in the bathtub of a Greenwich Village apartment, by her husband Andy Ostoy.

Shelly, who was born in Queens and grew up on Long Island, also had a 3-year-old daughter Sophie.
