I feel sorry for that child. I don't know about anyone else but this whole thing just seems bizarre and that includes everyone.

Well, I guess AP will be running angry this Sunday. I'd hate to be playing against him.

If AP plays on Sunday two days after his kid dies, it will say something about his character and priorities in life...

Sad situation all around but AP has seem ambivalent towards this whole situation from the get-go...even mentioning in one interview before the child died and was just in critical condition that he'll be playing Sunday. I mean WTF...seriously. That kind of says to me that he looked at this kid as just a dick slip and a financial thing to him that he was taking care of. I really never got the impression AP looked at this from a 'father's' viewpoint...

I want to start off by saying it is sad the child is dead. but at this point nothing can change that....

now, the person saddened most by this is probably the mother - lost her meal ticket. I say this knowing how insensitive it sounds.

then, the guy that did it... obviously he doesn't want to go to jail. is he sorry the child is dead? maybe, but realistically he probably only cares what the consequences will be as a result of the child dying, not that the child is dead...

then there is AP.... trust me I know shit happens, but I firmly believe if he was a father to this child, the child would still be alive. AP was a sperm donor at best in this situation. being a biological parent to the kid doesn't not make him a father. All this talk about having AP spend a few minutes alone with this guy are laughable.

I really think the bigger issue here is the fact we have so many people having bastard children and not being parents to them. This Patterson guy being a scum bag is a given, but those are just details. The people that failed this kid most were his 'parents'. We will never hear that said, because AP is a big star because he runs with a football in his hand and makes millions.

quoted for stupidity

And please tell, dickknuckle, what is stupid about it? From all accounts, it surely appears just as I stated it...ambivalence towards his own son in critical condition and he's gearing up to play a game on Sunday...

I dunno this guy, but I could see him wanting to play to try and help take his mind off the shit. I mean if I had a son and they were brutally killed I'd try to do everything I could to keep me focused on something else. Maybe this game can give just a few hours where he's not dwelling on what happened. I can't imagine loosing a son that young and I don't know how I'd react to it.

when it comes to death you can't really judge or have expectations on how a person should act.

that said, I doubt AP knew this kid much at all. Part me thinks AP has at least had the thought in his head that... whew, that's 16 yrs of child support I got out of. ... I know, pretty cold, but it this is the world we live in where people are having multiple kids with people that should not have the responsibility of a child.

Maybe its time to rethink eugenics and bring about sterilization programs. Too many people having kids who should not be having them to begin with.

I feel sorry for the kid. The situation IMO sounds like the kid was a meal ticket for the mom and a mistake for AP. Really screwed up all around.

Either way the man can play football so knuckle draggers everywhere will overlook what a pos he appears to be and have their jerseys on ready for game day.

because it's not up to you or anybody else how other people handle death of a family member. everyone is different and no one should judge based on what he does simply because it's not what they would do.

My my, why so defensive?

Frankly I've always hated idiots who jump to asinine and made up conclusions/speculations based on their prejudices. How you can conclude that he was into a certain Christian writer because he beat a kid to death is one of the dumbest posts I've ever read on ATOT.

Considering his remarks about this tragedy I think he's glad to see the kid gone. No more monthly payment to his mother for the next 23 years. I don't think he even cared for his bastard child.

1. He actually looks deeply religious, based on the cursory article on him. Many mentions of church.

2. Dobson in fact does advocate hitting small children. And the killer had a history of hitting small children.

It's perfectly plausible. Go look up James Dobson and his teachings on spankings. And take into account how people are stupid and will often half-learn a methodology.

Otherwise, what's the explanation? That we have a jealous little kid serial killer or something? Most people who do bad things are misguided and they misread certain practices about this or that.

When I grew up, it was relatively "normal" for parents or authority figures to inflict pain whenever there was any hint of disobedience or disrespect. I don't think it was right, but that's the way it was.

It was culturally accepted. I was routinely beaten by most of the babysitters I had while growing up. I was paddled by my principal in multiple different schools.

For the most part, culture in my area has changed dramatically in just a couple of decades and it's no longer acceptable to most people (at least not to that degree). However, some people here do still beat their kids over practically nothing...even in public. Casual observation in my region shows that it's far more prevalent and accepted in black communities than elsewhere...having NOTHING to do with Christianity or Dr. James Dobson.
