I am not sure what exactly you were looking for other than discussing the merits of modern LED flashlights..

But Fenix makes some real nice units, Surefire is so much more expensive for what you get.

What sucks is the gap in price/quality. A competent light can be had for 20 bucks. One that's a little sturdier with a better battery? 100+.

Anyhow back on topic. 100+ gets you 2,900 lumens which is amazingly bright, it looks like a helicopter spotlight.

Cree xmlt6 from a variety of sources for around $12.- coupled with an ultrafire 18650 rechargable battery for around $15.- with charger will give you 80% of the performance for 20% of the cost.
 
Got a new one xgb3l by noco. Pretty cool it has a 200 lumen led and will charge your phone as well. It has like a rubber shell that is water resistant as well.
 
I have a couple of NiteCore Defender Infinitys they are old by now and not as bright but when they were new they were among the brightest. Those are ones I carry almost every day.

I like them because they are AA single cell torches that work well with the newer Nmh rechargeable batteries that can keep their charge for 6+ months.

I also have a couple of Surefire lights. They're nicely built but the 3.2 volt cells are pricey unless you buy bulk packages so I don't use them often.

i still love my surefire e2l outdoorsman - it's a classic. for more power the compact Fenix PD35 2014 Edition 960 Lumen CREE XM-L2 U2 LED Tactical Flashlight
 
I just have every size of Maglight made, but I keep batteries in the 5 cell with a LED bulb. It works and that's all I care about...
 
Prefer the Anal one myself. Nice tight ring, treats me right. Oh wait, oldish thread and flashlight.

I picked up a new UV penlight for fluorescent mineral hunting (works great). A review of one of the lights I looked at was chock full of WTF...

As a police officer, I bought this light to do drug evaluations and check "customers" pupils in the dark. I am able to measure their pupil size which historically has been nearly impossible to do with very low traditional light. This fits right in my shirt pocket and provides just enough light so that their pupil size doesn't react to it. Th may not put out enough light for other purposes you may have for it

Occifer Friendly is shining a UV light directly into suspects' eyes, not good. And he is using UV light to gauge the degree of dilation, not good either. I bet he has an astonishingly high rate of reasonable cause.
