On the other hand, RTX 4070 needs only 1/2 TDP to perform as 100W RTX 4050, that's also very nice.

On the other hand you could say that the xx70 brand has been dragged through the mud. This isn't o much an xx50 chip that's punching above its weight, but an anemic 4070 that might make the 4050 look good by comparison, but is a step down from previous generations where you got a 104 die with the xx70 mobile part.

Pricing will always determine ultimate value, but this is NVidia cashing in on their existing brand and reputation.

True, but that's Nvidia's fault. AD106 performs pretty well, the only problem I have with It is 8GB Vram.
Maybe Nvidia should have made AD107 smaller, only having 4050's specs as a full chip.

TPU did a fresh test of PCIe scaling using a 13900K. Dropping to x8 4.0 doesn't really hurt performance that much and only a couple games show a decent drop at x4.

But that's a card with 24GB Vram.
A much weaker RX 6500XT loses performance at x8 4.0(x16 3.0). Link
It just shows 16GB/s(x8 4.0) is good enough for communication between CPU and GPU.
The real problem is when GPU has insufficient Vram and can't get data fast enough from system memory.

The 6500XT is only x4 though. It's only 8GB/s in a 4.0 system or 4GB/s in a 3.0 system. That's part of the reason it was such a crappy product, in a large percentage of the systems you'd use it in it's already leaving 15% of it's performance on the table just because of the narrow bus.

I made a mistake. It was tested using x4 PCIe 4.0, 3.0 and 2.0.

Rumor speculates that the 4070 will be released on April 13th. Still seems like 3080 10 GB performance for $699.

Wild that N32 is just completely AWOL. No rumors, no SKUs, no nothing.

Meantime NV is dropping their entire line of rapaciously priced cards top to bottom.

Wonder if AMD is doing a classic AMD and waiting for NV to show their hand so they can undercut them in pricing.

Interestingly, nVidia has set the review embargo for the day before the 4070's launch... but only for MSRP cards.

Hopefully that forces more reviews of base cards which tend to not get reviewed much.

But it's probably indicative of very poor value at MSRP and dreadful if even a little above MSRP.

Indeed. They are trying to prevent very bad reviews.

I was thinking the opposite (relatively speaking) but also a fake MSRP that you can't actually buy at.

I remember reading similar about the $799 4070 ti price, but these have always been available since day 1.

The MSRP cards disappearing is more about demand and scalpers, IMO.

$749 starting for the RTX 4070? :tearsofjoy:

Then again, source is WCCFTech quoting Moore's Law is Dead.

Yeah, that just seems silly. $799 4070 Ti cards have never been rare, meaning there is very little chance anyone with a clue would buy a $749 4070 at MSRP (let alone the inevitable >MSRP versions).

Then again lots of people bought $300 RTX 3050 that was weaker than the RTX 2060.

Or the cheaper and faster RX 6600.

We already know a LOT of people just want NVidia regardless of bang for the buck.

The 2060 is previous generation and only has 6GB, and won't be as readily supplied as 3050.

But this is new generation product from the same company, in a time where mining is dead.

A $750 MSRP for 4070 is just more MLID nonsense (not sure why people keep believing his nonsense).

I don't want to believe it, but who would have ever believed $1200 RTX 4080 with mining dead? Though maybe Nvidia's leaking that $749 number so they look like heroes when they "slash" the price of the 4070 to $649.

This is Nvidia and we're in crazy world where people think the 4070ti is a good 4k card with 12gb vram and it is a good value at $800. This could be marketing drama or as many have said, Nvidia often changes prices right at launch.

- Probably just NV astroturfing so when we see a $699 or $649 price tag for essentially 3080/6800XT performance we'll all weep tears of joy at how reasonably priced the card is.

I had no trouble believing something significantly faster than 3090 Ti was $1200.

Though maybe Nvidia's leaking that $749 number so they look like heroes when they "slash" the price of the 4070 to $649.

You really shouldn't feel the need to theorycraft a defense for MLID nonsense.
