Seems to be a bit of mixed message...I don't think Lexus ever built a real econobox like Acura.

The Integra has been with Acura since it's inception. Acura wasn't designed to be a true luxury brand like Mercedes, etc. Honda wanted it to be a step up from Honda, and that is all. It is only recently that Honda is pushing for Acura to carry models with more "luxury".

OK, makes sense, but it seems to me that Integra is pretty much exactly the same thing as Civic.

In my business classes (like 5 years ago), they always said it was because of tariffs or something. I don't really remember it all that well, but the US was only allowing a certain number of vehicles in from Honda Japan, so they made a luxury line and to maximize sales off the limited number. Something like that.

I'd be happy with a nice inline 6 in the NSX. I just don't think 3.2L v6 when I think $90,000. That sounds like the same engine my TL has in it. How boring is THAT?

heh...Senna didn't think it needed a V8. And he freaking test drove the car during its development. He was a rather big part of the development of the NSX. And for that the NSX will always be special.

You can't really put a price on a car that Senna helped design.

Senna would have tested the car in the mid to late 80's. The car was introduced in '90 I believe. It's nearly 15 years later now. $90k will get you a state of the art 911 S these days not to mention a gaggle of other cars for even less money instead of a relic of Bush Sr's administration.

Everyone and their grandma has a V8 (or some uber jacked up 6) nowadays. I think that the new Carrera S is throwing down a 355+ HP gauntlet and the GT3, GT2, Turbo are all serving up more. You've got $50k Corvettes laying down 500HP with sharp handling to boot. Not to mention Ferrari's new 430 and the Gallardo and the Ford GT.

Hell, you can get 300HP in a 350Z now (2005 Track/Anniversary model) and friggin' minivans are tossing out 255HP (a Honda no less). Given how much the NSX weighs (~3,150 lbs), 290 is nothing these days in the face of a 500HP Vette, 550HP Ford GT, 500HP Lambo Gallardo, and a 500HP Ferrari 430.

But, there's always the argument that HP isn't everything...but in today's times with the exception of featherweights like the Elise, it is...

Hey cmon... Schumacher helped design the F50 and the Enzo... and look how much those are going for. ;)

Senna or not... the NSX-R will still be one of my favorite cars no matter what anyone says. :p

I'm not disagreeing with you.

For most casual sport-car buyers, they would (and should) overlook the NSX for the 911 or other competitors.

The NSX isn't about power...and only the hard-core enthusaists who know what they want...buy NSX. There's a reason they only sold about 20-30 the entire year (I know I'm exagerating it..but you see the point). It may take longer to accelerate, but it hold its speed thru the corner.

A few years ago, EVO magazine was doing a Sports Car of the Year test..and guess what they chose? The NSX-R over the Pagani Zonda S (and the rest of the cars). Why? It was a tad slower than the Zonda on the road course, but they said it was brilliant to drive, very comfortable, reliable,etc.. And much cheaper too.

Anyway thats going off the topic ofthethread.

cliff notes:
- NSX IS over priced
- but it's not a bad car..and is for those who want a pure sports car..where power isn't an issue

But good for Acura for setting record sales year after year. Maybe they can stuff that RL drivetrain/suspension in the shell of the Legend and set even more records.

btw, my Senna comment was about the fact that it was Senna who did the development of the car....I meant that he was immortalized in the NSX...to his fans anyway. And that is worth quite a bit.

Damn, I must now withdraw my previous comments about never having seen any Acuras besides Integras and RSXes. They attacked me last night - 2 or 3 TL's, an NSX, a coupla other ones. Lame. They still aren't luxury in any sense.

I didn't even know that Senna was involved in the development of the NSX. Whenever I think NSX, I always associate it with Alex Zanardi for obvious reasons ;)

The NSX is midengined so gets a bit more HP to the ground. No rear differential and long driveshafts to turn. WHP still matters more than crank.

NSX may be overpriced new, but it's still a fantastic used car. If I wasn't looking to buy a house, for a 2nd weekend car, an NSX would be very high on my list.

Ever since Mercedes and Chrysler got in bed, Acura >>>> Mercedes. There's nothing like the bad name of Chrysler to drag down the reputation of any other car company.

A family friend recently bought a new S600. Supposedly the car is often in the shop. MB seems to be doing a good job of pissing off their customers.

Zanardi may have been involved in it, I don't know.

BUt I remember an article about Senna test driving the car in its early stages and telling the engineers how it felt, what to change, etc...

THe same way Jackie Stewart drove the 2nd gen Taurus and relayed how he felt to the FOrd engineers..except he did it at the very end ofthe stage just before it was going for final production.

ah you tell me about the G35... it is still a fantastic car if you ask me but it is really getting a bit too common...

Seriously, ever since I picked the G35 as the car I'm most interested in, I've been seeing it everywhere. Once at a stoplight I saw one in the lane next to me, one across in the left hand turning lane, one going across me from right to left, then one on the very same cross street making a right turn and finally one going from left to right. Thats 5 G35s using the same intersection at almost the same time!! 5!!! Good lord!
