that's also why you should buy winter tires. Better gas mileage because you can drive 10x faster before losing control. with shitty tires, one needs to basically come to a complete stop before making a turn. With winter tires, you take that corner going 30mph without breaking a sweat.

shut the fuck up

rofl.

Also, the government agrees with me. If there's one thing we know, it's that the government never makes mistakes.

Drive Sensibly

Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others, so you may save more than gas money.

Observe the Speed Limit

Graph showing MPG VS speed MPG decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mphWhile each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph.

Use Cruise Control

Using cruise control on the highway helps you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, will save gas.

Use Overdrive Gears

When you use overdrive gearing, your car's engine speed goes down. This saves gas and reduces engine wear.

What's ironic is that this is almost a laundry list of things I do that ATG disagrees with. Driving a sensible average speed? Maintaining full speed while turning? I just said do that. You can only do that with winter tires.
Driving the speed limit? Only I do that. I'm flying past people every day because my winter tires let me drive the speed limit. According to that graph, my gas mileage is significantly improved because I'm going 40mph and everyone else is going 20mph.
Using cruise control on icy roads? I do that because my winter tires let me quickly respond to dangerous situations and I don't need to plan too far in advance.
Overdrive? My constant complaining about overdriving kicking in and out shows that I'm using overdrive. The government agrees with me.

You do realize that winter tires are designed for deep snow correct? On ice, they are no better than regular tires. Ice requires studs or chains.......

When you are driving in snow and ice you should be concerned about safety not gas mileage. How many days a year do you drive in snow/ice that you need to save the $1 in gas?

That would actually help quite a bit because I drive every day. I take the bus to work, but I still have lots to do. Today I went to a friend's house after work, picked girlfriend up from college, went to tea with her friend, drive around looking at apartments/neighborhoods to consider moving to, drop girlfriend off, and here I am.

Don't be angry just because I have better tires than you.
Highly unlikely, but please expand on your theory that winter tyres allow you to get "Better gas mileage because you can drive 10x faster before losing control". Let me help you out here; If I can only go 20Mph with my huge summer tyres, with your tyres I can go 200Mph. I'm not sure I'll be saving fuel doing 200Mph on snow and ice, so please help me with your statement. I would also really like to know where I can get 200Mph rated snow tyres.

Have you checked walmart? They have a wide selection of tires. They'll do the wheel balance and alignment for free when you buy new tires.

There's no use in him expanding on it unless you live in Shawn's world.

Just inflate them to sidewall, they'll take 200 MPH without a problem. :awe:

I take corners going 30mph and I don't need to hit the brakes. Guys with zero's summer tires need to come to almost a full stop, block all the traffic behind them, then waste precious petrol to get the car back up to 30mph. Having summer tires means you hate the environment and should probably be given a ticket.

Ironically, driving on unsafe tires is only illegal in summer. Driving on bald tires = illegal. Using rock hard summer tires on glare ice = not illegal!?!?
Similarly, prostitution is illegal but pornography is not. The porn and tire laws were probably written by the same retarded person.

coefficient of friction is determined by tyre material, not pressure

of course ATG refuses to believe such a thing as coefficient of friction exists and therefore ATG assumes winter and summer tires have the exact same coefficient of friction on ice. I'm not even putting words in peoples mouths. Someone posted that, and I've heard people say that in real life. Do those people ever wonder why tires are made from rubber?

Stop feeding the troll guys, it's not worth it. ZV, how long do we have to go before temp/perma ban? Same reasons as the last idiot, misinformation which could be dangerous.

Name 1 thing I've said that is factually incorrect. I've posted links for every single argument I've ever made.

Straight from the EPA:
Are you sure you've driven a car with an automatic transmission?

My Corolla (and most other cars) will not engage overdrive unless the car is traveling a minimum of 35mph. That's the speed limit on slow roads. Go at least the speed limit! Anything less than the speed limit means you hate nature and want to ruin fuel economy for you and for everyone else behind you. On the drive home yesterday, I was stuck behind some douche in an SUV going about 30mph so my car stayed in third gear the whole time. Thanks for wasting my gas, asshole slow driver. He's driving slow because he's on his shitty tires that takes 10 miles to stop.

In vehicles with the sport shift automatic, the car will not allow you to shift into overdrive if you are going too slow. In a V6 Altima with the 5-speed auto, it wouldn't let me put the car in top gear unless I was going at least 35mph.

So if you want to save gas, you need tires that can allow the car to go the speed limit. Good luck staying on the road when you have crappy all season tires. They're rock hard when cold because those tires are also designed to work when the road is roasting in the summer heat. No tire is going to work great in +100F weather as well as -20F weather. A rubber that works over a span over 120 degrees? Nobody on earth would demand that from a tire.

I would also really like to know where I can get 200Mph rated snow tyres.
This statement is ironic. You are implying that since the tires are not rated for 200mph, you should not drive 200mph on them, correct? Is it fair to assume you always follow the manufacturer specs? All season tires are rarely, if ever, rated for operation below 5-10F. If you drive on all season tires when it's 0F outside, you might as well be inflating them to sidewall then driving 200mph on them.

When I bought my SRT, it came with a free SRT Track Experience day. There they let you drive Vipers/SRT8 Jeeps/Chargers/300's, plus they have a class before you got behind the wheel on proper techniques of driving around the track. First time you went around the track, an instructor drove and you rode along to see how they took the track, then you get to drive and they ride along. It was a great hands experience to learn how to properly drive a powerful car around a track. It was only one day and I only got to drive twice around the track but I got to drive a Viper and 300 SRT8.

I know there are other things like this you can purchase, special events where you get to drive cars and they teach you on how to properly drive. They're not cheap, the SRT Experience I went to cost $500 but it came with my car, but well worth it for the experience of driving great cars and learning from a professional on how to drive.

You were the one praising the EPA's driving advice.

Why did you think I quoted them?

You're so full of it, you make we wish fleabag would come back.

Apex driving academy at Motorsport ranch is only around $200 and is pretty good. BYOC though.
