i don't know if it is an injury, muscle strain or whatever, but for quite a while i have had a groin / leg muscle or tendon that has been sore on a daily basis. i play hockey once or twice a week and i really have to stretch that area out when i first get on to the ice. i've always stretched but this muscle is super tight and it feels pretty crazy when i stretch it out. sometimes i will just be walking around the house and if i make a sudden move (usually a quick turn like when you forget something or whatever), i will hear it 'pop'. 0_o

i know groin strains are issues with hockey players but i was just wondering if i can expect this to hang around forever? it doesn't bother me after stretches and warmup, usually during the game i don't even feel it, but mornings like this morning, it is really sore! anyone know anything about this?

You should probably go to a PT and have it checked, have them prescribe you some excercises.

I've had a nagging shoulder injury - on the first set of any bench press or military press, my left shoulder would twinge on the up motion, but only on the warmup/first set. I gave it a week off last week and back to normal, but it had been on-going for 4 months. (I had taken a few weeks off of weights and it still hadn't helped)

i'm pretty sure my benefits at least partly cover physio. good idea to look into that. i've thought about going for a couple things in the past but those issues just passed with time.

i never even thought to post this in the health & fitness forum... i forgot we had one of those.

Physio for sure. I had a nagging shoulder injury and found a great physiotherapist that helped me clear it right up. I also received help on modifying my workout so I would build up strength in the affected area without causing any further problems.

You're Canadian, so your insurance will cover it up to a maximum. I've never had an insurance plan that didn't cover it.

actually that reminds me of another question i had in relation to age and injuries or nagging issues....

is it pretty much expected that we will all have issues such as these as we grow into middle age and beyond? (i don't consider myself middle-aged yet at 32 but just curious)

or are some people lucky enough to never experience recurring issues?

Injuries:
1) My right elbow/wrist is screwed up from disc golf and tennis. I wear an elbow brace to the gym.
2) My left knee is screwed up from too many leg presses and squats. I wear a knee brace to the gym.

I've never seen a groin brace. :D

and today when i had to change a flat tire in the freezing cold, man oh man, my back was feeling it afterwards.

Yeah, I have one, I nuked my knee about 18 months back pic is a little graphic- freshly sutured wound, so may be NSFW or just unsightly to the squeamish pic

Anywho, I tore the meniscus, but after consulting a sports med doc, decided to decline arthroscopy and live with it. It hurts when I first start to run or kick the heavy bag, but once I get going for a while, it just becomes " background noise" if you will. When/if it inhibits me significantly I'll get the surgery. For now, it is definitely just nagging me.

Yeah, I'm a wreck at times.....Arthritis sets in virtually 100 percent of the time with serious joint injuries. It's just the way life is.

11 years in federal law enforcement, 12 years in the Army (A combat MOS) and 40 plus years of abuse have left me with chronic tendonitis in the left elbow, right shoulder and right knee. Two destroyed wrists (mid-carpal instability), and a right akle that never healed after a three axis sprain a year ago, not to mention that my sternum was fractured and then poorly healed, and now my chest isn't level anymore (one side lower than the other by about 4 mm).

I learned to work most of the injuries back to normal (or at lest keep them from further damage) through proper working of the supporting muscle groups. Arthritis is always there, but a few high rep (15-20 reps), light warmup sets helps with that.

edited for poor typing skills (as usual)

Right arm golfer's elbow.

4+ weeks and even though I've taken an entire week off twice already, it's still there.

Tendonitis in the right shoulder. I'm 25 and have been lifting for about 4 years. My shoulder has been bugging me for the last 1.5 years. Probably from poor form and bad habits.

Bad knees, 4 years but they got a lot better in the past 2. I'm able to squat again this year for the first time! I'm really excited!

My right IT band has been messed up for a little over a year now, been going to pt for a while with little improvement. Going back to the doc on Monday and he'll prob either give me another cortisone shot or decide to operate. I don't care anymore as long as it stops hurting.
