I'm not normally a watcher of Glenn Beck, but was surfing last night and caught the show, glad I did.

We all know about ACORN and how they appear to be a questionable organization. What I did not know is how bad they could be .

They send all their mail to a old funeral home. People inside ACORN said it is used as a mail drop for all the organizations. In other words , a front. So our tax dollars are going to a organization that doesn't even have proper offices.

Look up the address they give for the national operations on google.
http://www.acorn.org/index.php?id=8406

2609 Canal St.
New Orleans, LA 70119

Their DC address:
739 8th Street SE
Washington, DC 20003

No office there on the google maps.

Something very wrong here.

From the Glenn Beck site:

There's a rotten smell coming from ACORN, the community organizing group of 400,000 or so people in 110 cities that became notorious for voter registration fraud allegations during the 2008 election.

We have people on the inside telling us what they believe is happening because there doesn't seem to be enough journalists who want to be the Woodward and Bernstein of today.

First hint of smoke: Here's what the chair of ACORN in Washington, D.C., said last week:

MARCEL REID, ACORN: ACORN doesn't need to be funded with any more taxpayer dollars until we find out what happened to the last taxpayer dollars that ACORN was funded with.

Boy, isn't it awfully suspicious that people within the organization itself can't seem to get answers about where all the taxpayer money is going? There's no transparency and when people have asked questions, they've been tossed out ? like another one of our guests, Karen Inman.

We know there is smoke, but is there fire? I don't know because it's nearly impossible to unravel the web of organizations that are part of this massive group.

All of ACORN apparently operates under the umbrella of Citizens Consulting Inc., whose Web site is completely empty aside from its address: 1024 Elysian Fields Ave., New Orleans.

According to corporate filings, about 270 related organizations ? which are a mix of corporations and non-profits from states from California to Louisiana ? have filed from that location. Does that look like a building that holds 270 organizations?

The $630,000 building that was once a funeral home is owned by Elysian Fieldscorp.

But there's even more smoke there.

The president of ACORN, Wade Rathke, is also a partner in Elysian Fieldscorp. And he and his brother Dale are listed as president or partner in dozens of companies based in that building in Louisiana.

We've told you that Dale embezzled about a million dollars while serving as comptroller of CCI and was fired about a year ago over it ? only after the scandal had been brushed under the carpet for about eight years.

But is there fire?

To give you an idea of what's going on at that address as far as size and scope, compare it to the United Way. The United Way has 1,300 local organizations, while ACORN has 1,200 ? so they're roughly the same size. But, we found just 13 records of affiliated organizations at United Way's main address. ACORN has two hundred and seventy.

So what's going on in that location? We don't know yet. We think it could be as harmless as an administrative letter drop.

But there's plenty of smoke at that address in Louisiana and we're going to find out whether the fire department needs to be called in.

http://weeklyworldnews.com/pol...plan-to-ban-vacations/

WASHINGTON, DC ? President Barack Obama is going to try to cancel all American workers? vacations for the summer!

That?s the shocking word from one White House source, who says Obama?s stunning plan is a desperate attempt to boost American?s economy and ensure reelection in 2012.

?At first, people will hate Obama?s plan but in the end it?ll make him look like an economic genius,? an anonymous White House source said.

?His advisers calculate the scheme will increase U.S. productivity by almost 18 percent and add at least $1.2 trillion to the Gross National Product ? because employees will be working an average of 2.5 extra weeks a year.?

?And when productivity skyrockets, America will quickly assume a stronger position in the international marketplace. In the long run millions of new jobs will be created ? and unemployment will virtually disappear.?

White House officials refused to confirm whether Obama was considering the controversial proposal.

The most devious part of Obama?s plan is a loophole that will allow vacations for a select few people who work in the media, such as high-profile newspaper columnists and TV commentators. ?Since these people won?t have to suffer, they?ll praise Obama like he?s a hero. Daily newspapers will be full of charts and graphs showing how the economy is moving along at a record pace.?

With the exceptions of federally monitored sick days, U.S. workers will be required to work all days except weekends and three government-approved holidays: Christmas, July 4th and Martin Luther King?s birthday,

The final step of Obama?s plan will be to call a major press conference on New Year?s Day 2010 and announce that he is granting everyone their vacations back for that year. ?He knows the public has a short memory and by then will have forgiven him for taking away their vacations in teh first place,? the source said.

Obama?s advisors believe it will be difficult to get the plan through Congress, so he?ll probably enforce it through a special Presidential Order. He?s expected to announce the plan sometime in the next two weeks.

if this is what passes for investigative journalism we are in deep shit.

how pathetic is that "write up" on the website!?

"We have people on the inside telling us what they believe is happening because there doesn't seem to be enough journalists who want to be the Woodward and Bernstein of today."

"We know there is smoke, but is there fire? I don't know because it's nearly impossible to unravel the web of organizations that are part of this massive group."

Gawd. So basically he is assuming alot, starts sounding the alarm. But has no proof of anything.

ANYTHING.

I dunno guys, I think this sort of stuff bullshit "reporting" should be illegal. Its so sensational I don't know how anyone can take it seriously.

Your article and your faux shocked and outraged comments are trolling.

OMG! It could be absolutely nothing and we have no reason to be outraged but by god I'll be outraged anyway! I'm not trolling, I'm pointing out how the "article" you posted is just a bunch of blathering unsubstantiated nonsense as coherent as any 9/11 Truther screed. I ridicule your source because the source is full of crap.

At least my article was funny to read.

I'm not sure what the issue is. So (from this 'article') the building used to be a funeral home. So what?

How about we agree Glenn Beck is an idiot and move on. ACORN is rotten IMO, but there is nothing to see here.

Mapquest shows buildings at and around that location. Google Maps' street view shows a building having a first story storefront with an awning saying "Attitude Exact" and a second story that looks like office space.

Glenn Beck should go back to sniffing glue and eating paint chips.

You don't see anything suspicious about an organization that claims 400K members, and receives millions in taxpayer money, that operates out of offices that couldn't be used to run the local Goodwill.

I'll agree that Beck tries to be over the top and I generally don't like they guy. But the questions remain.

Look at any reputable organization. They have an office, that has signs on it saying things like office, hours. This is a multi-million dollar organization and all they have is a sign in a window of a office that could hold maybe 5 people ? Try to get answers from ACORN and all you get is email addresses. Their own members said they don't deserve more money till they know where the last money went.

If this doesn't remind someone of the old scheme where one uses a building as a front or just a mailing address for other stuff that is going on, I don't know what it would take.

So you'd rather they spend their money on fancy office buildings?

No I would expect them to have a regular office.
Ask yourself if you would invest in a bank that was run out of another business and only had a sign hanging in the window that they were a bank.

It isn't about big offices. It is about standard practices used by legit business. Things like having an office that is actually an office, not a storefront.

The difference being that a bank is expected to have a lot of money and a non-profit organization is not. If I saw a bank being run out of a storefront, I would think "this bank doesn't have very much money, so how can I be sure I'll get my money back?" At least if they have a large building, I know they can sell it if need be. If I see a non-profit in a giant office building, I think "here is an organization that is spending their funds unwisely, buying buildings instead of helping the needy." And I wouldn't support them.

I never said big or fancy. It just needs to be decent and actually have people that work there, like maybe accountants ? A president or someone in charge ? This is multi-million dollar, not the local soup kitchen.

I love how the right wing is trying to create a conspiracy around a poorly organized outfit like ACORN. I can't believe anyone is still talking about this. So the fuck what if they used a former funeral home as a mail drop? We had billions of dollars disappear without a trace in Iraq - where's the faux outrage over spent tax dollars there from Glenn? This guy is a clown out to get ratings by drumming up false controvery, and people like you are eating it up.
