If you thought the plot was good go play Homeworld 1. The plot of those first 2 levels is pretty much the exact same thing as the first one.

Gameplay and graphics similar to the first, but with more detail. The best improvement is that to move to resourses or enemy ships, you can right click to move ships there. Less cumbersome than using the navigating disc and moving along the z-axis

Graphics are a nice improvement over HW1 and HW:Cata. There are some gameplay differences which should have been addressed earlier. The demo should definitely have been released much earlier (to get more feedback), as the retail game has already been printed and shipped to retailers, so expect an early patch.
Major plot issues. Relic promises all will be answered in retail game, but IMHO there is going to be dissappointment to go around.
Will probably wait after game is patched at least twice before buying.

Played both HW1 and HW:Cata through twice. Thought original game was groundbreaking and both games worth every penny I paid for them.

I loved both, and I can adapt to the new interface. Didnt know about plot issues with the new game though

Mmmmm... Memories of HW1 on my Celly 266@400 and my TNT2 card. Beautiful graphics, a blast to play, and a good story line.

I could never get past those friggin white zoomie guys with their big sperm-looking momma ship. :|

I want HW2 sooo bad, but can't see spending $45 for a game, no matter how badly I want to play it. Maybe I can get someone to go in halves and we can take turns with it....

Main plot issues I see concern technology. The ships still don't repair themselves. They did that in the original Homeworld without upgrades. HW:C, ok, they're miners, so they needed to research some technologies. But here it is again, the main Hiigaran fleet, without some key technologies. I mean come on, the ships are still using mass-driver weapons! There were energy burst weapons on hust about every ship in HW:C.
The whole modular design is intriguing...but I do wonder why a few basics are considered options, like the fighter, corvette, and frigate modules. Shouldn't they come standard by now?
Oh well, I'll have to see how it all pans out in the full version.

What exactly was level 4? Let me just say the level before the last level was the hardest. The level procedding all were easy. I had to restart a few times because my 21 ion frigates, 5 destroyer, 14 squadron of fighter,s 4 carriers, 2 dragnotts and 1 super class dragnott, 15+ corvetts, with stead maintain of building of ships, fighters and stuff still I could not withstand the onsluaught that was handed to me. Took a few try and a few different stratigies to beat it.

Here is some to try. First send in the planes in swarms to knock out the fighters and bombers. By then your first wave are probbly dead use your factory to continue building fighters and send them in swarms. This time start attacking the enemy fleet because they have no fighter cover. If it looks good move in with some ion corvetts to give an extra punch on the enemy fleet. Remember it takes a lot more time to produce battlecrusiers then it takes to make fighters and bombmers. The enemy fleet is on a collision course towards you so let them come place ur 2 super class battleships as nothing more then shield for the enemy to shoot at. Then move foward your fleet of ion frigates and concentrate ur fire on 1 enemy at a time. By this time u should be seeing some of the best battle sequence for the entire game. Remember you still have planes flying everywhere while you are exchanging vollyes of ion against each other. I beat the game in less then 12 hours without skipping any of the films. The last level is easy more of a you beat this game here have some fun with this toy level.

Oh is that how you beat that level?

i ended up blowing the three carrier up without letting them ever touching the base. I did fail the mission once or twice though

I'm on the level where Higaara (homeplanet) is under attack. Last level I think? Anyway, I just lost twice.

I think I didn't save enough of my previous fleet in the level before. My dreadnaught got destroyed, as well as most of my ships. I only had like 2 battleships and 2 destroyers by the end. I might have to redo it in order to be the last one.

Well my friend and I beat it. Took us about 20hrs straight play. Anyway, I took a funny screenshot and I thought you guys might like to see it:

it :D

Disappointments:
Lack of options in multiplayer
No force attack
No time compression
No Kamikaze

Other than those I don't think there was anything else that really stood out as bad.

No force attack? Sucks....
No Time compression - agreed on this one. The game does have faster pacing (a wee bit too fast; they should drop it by like 0.1x).
No kamikaze. Also sucks. It was quite handy to take a damaged ship and instead of trying to get it back to the mothership or a support frigate for repairs, which en route it would usually get blown up anyway, just smash it right into the ship you're attacking. I'd do that with entire squadrons of fighters sometimes, like if I'm attacking an enemy carrier, and then a good sized fleet of fighters, or else a few missile destroyers, enters the area, I'd just ram all my fighters there into a good target.

I just bought HW1 for 9.99.... great game!

I hope they improve the AI for HW2 as that was the major weakness of the first one, IMO.

Last level was pretty anticlimatic. First 20 minutes were pretty frantic, where as the last 45 minutes that it took to haul my fleet over to the enemy was BOOOORRRRIIINNNG....the final battle was also boring.

I also think they should have some behind the scene population dynamic. Something where Loss of Life has some meaning. As it is, the mother ship has an infinite supply of trained forces. I think they should put in a feature where crews develop proficiencies the longer they serve.... Green crews less efficient, Veteran crews more efficient.

LOL
all u need is like a few ships in the last level defend the home planet by knocking out the stupid missiles.

Use ur newly accquired mothership/battleship the knock out the oribital missile lunching system.

Hyperspaceing is your friend. When you hyperspace your newly accquired mothership/battleship reparies itself so thats it. just knock out the missiles and hyperspace.
