While it is quite vain, I'd have to say losing your hair is one of the worst things to go through.
I'm a diffuse thinner. Basically, my hair doesn't recede--it just falls out all over the top evenly. It has even thinned around the ears, sideburns and around the back of my head where the hair meets the neck.
Many guys who have hair loss experience it over years so they can get accustomed to it. I've had about 18 months from the point I noticed it thinning, until now--point of no return.
I've decided to bic it rather than doing the George Kostanza wrap around..that just looks too damn goofy (at least at my age).
Gave propecia and nizoral 6 months. No difference. I'm guessing that it is due to my specific type of hair loss--if you are a normal Male Pattern Balder (MPB), count your blessings because they seem to get some good results.
In a years time I think I'll get a hair transplant so that I can have a little coverage on top, and keep it very short--avoiding the total cueball look. I'll grow it out like #2 buzz length or thereabouts. Hair transplants generally lack, so I won't try to grow it like regular hair.
Figured I'd save the dudes on here who are starting to bald some time. Try the big three (propecia, rogaine and nizoral), but if it doesn't work then too bad--out of your control. I read lots of hair loss forums but most of the natural and alternative remedies they suggest are outright laughable. When it comes down to it, most guys are in denial and want to believe that rubbing some magic $90 cream into your head makes a difference. It won't.
The faster you get over this, the faster you can get back to what matters in life.
