Just bought one of these 22" Acers.
I caved and picked one up at my local costco, which was pretty difficult since they seem to be flying off the shelves. I had to drive 1hr. to find a costco that had it in stock and I got the last one. Yesturday, on my acer 22" costco adventure, I also picked up a 20"ws princeton (8ms)that costco had for $250, but mostly for comparison and a back up if i didn't find this acer. I have to say that for $250 bucks, the princeton is pretty nice and hard to beat for the price...but, its color reproduction is aweful, there is no depth of colors. BTW, I'm comparing these to my dearly beloved Viewsonic VP191b which is a great 19" with fantastic color ability(I think the VP191b is a 8bit panel, so keep that in mind when I mention the color abilities of these monitors). So the Princeton gets a C- for color accuracy, but teh Acer gets an A- or B+ and is far superior to the Princeton IMHO. I'd have to say the Acer is a tad bit sharper than the Princeton and equal with my Viewsonic. Ghosting is a nonissue on both, but was the tiniest bid apparant on my old viewsonic.
Gaming: Games look great on both, for color the Acer wins hands down. For Ghosting/shadowing(as i now call it, since its more like a tight shadow than a ghost) the Princeton wins but just barely and I doubt anyone but the most pickiest will notice(I am VERY picky with ghosting). Oblivion looks fantastic on the Acer and good on the princeton, GuildWars looks better on the Acer. BF2 looks WAY better on the Acer, period. BF2 colors are complimentary to the Acer's abilites. For some reason I noticed some grainy textures with the Princeton, but not with the Acer. I've never noticed this with any other monitor before so I'm at a loss as to what to call it.
CONCLUSION:
Both at 1680x1050, and no dead pixels, BTW. If all you got is 250 bucks and you just game, you'd be hard pressed to beat the Princeton on the Price/performance ratio. If you are color picky, like myself, you will have to spend a little more. IMO, the extra hundred it will cost you for the ACER 22" is well worth it. For that hundred bucks you get 19% more screen area, far better color reproduction ability, wider and taller screen, faster response time(5ms vs. 8ms, which I have to say is TOTALLY unnoticeable), and IMO a better all around monitor.
The princeton will be going back tomorrow and the Acer has a new home.
