Yeah, this Madoka character seems odd. Seems more like 'car brag' than anything else, as he says 'pay the money to get a good car and you won't have shift shock', which is hilarious as I know for a FACT that the '09 Cayman S w/PDK in Sport+ hits like a little jackhammer at WOT, at least through the 1-2 and 2-3 (didn't get fast enough to see the 3-4).

It's particularly ironic considering 'shift shock' is NOT an indication of a good or bad car if it happens under WOT acceleration. The whole point of a clutch is to grab and go, slippage, either created by a slushbox (liquid coupled torque converter), or by a lazy shift setting in a DCT/SMG (usually the DD setting, not the M mode or Sport/Race mode) is there as a result of reducing performance.

Almost any car will have no shift shock when driven at normal to moderately aggressive levels. And if you're going for max performance in a sports car (hello, Cayman S anyone), you WANT the thing to brutally and efficiently grab each gear.

It's called sarcasm. Yet another concept that eludes you.

I'm not entirely sure you know what sarcasm means, as your post was not in the least sarcastic. Rather it was somewhat combative, condescending, and rambling.

I think we should all peacefully back out of this thread, as it's quite clear for some time now how each of us feel about this issue. I'm not going to try to convince you of something that I know personally to be true, and vice versa. Further discussion really has no place to go but downhill.

With that, I wish you a good night and lots of fun times in those cars, particularly that awesome Cayman. I think I'd have a hard time even looking at the IS-F after owning one of those.

Do YOU own this car in question? If not, then how do you know?

You don't think it's funny that people on the basis of a couple of test drives claim to know more about the car than an actual owner. There is NO jackhammering, because it shifts rather smoothly. But if it makes your manhood shrink to think that other people drive nicer cars than you, keep thinking what you want.

Nicer is subjective depending on what you personally look for in a car. Your shit is too slow for me for any amount of money. If you don't have hard shifts, you don't have enough power. You may prefer to drive cars in which the drive train and vehicle inertia bosses the engine around, some of us prefer cars where the engine over powers everything else and has the final word in what happens, even if it means breaking shit.

Ok, I was nice in my previous post.

You're a dickhead. There, I said what everyone else here is thinking. Do you think you're the only person in the world with nice cars? They're actually pretty fucking pedestrian in the big picture, but of course you seem to think that you are the most important person in the universe and start trolling the shit out of threads just to brag about your cars.

You ignore the utterly obvious point that jackhammer hard shifts at WOT in a DCT/SMG/Manual car is NOT a sign of poor/low quality, but rather the transmission DOING THE MOTHERFUCKING JOB IT'S DESIGNED TO DO. Of COURSE it doesn't fucking shift hard at modes and levels outside of WOT/maximum settings.

Do you know what happens when you shift the 6-speed hard at WOT in a Ferrari 599? That's right ... BOOM headshot and you fucking well feel it. It's not crap, it's the MOTHERFUCKING clutch grabbing.

I don't give a fuck if you drive an Enzo or a goddamned Yugo, GTFO if you can't be a gentleman and have a fucking normal conversation like you're older than 7th grade. Fuck that, 7th graders have class on you.

I bring up the Cayman, because that's what I own and it's relevant to the discussion. I was not the one swearing and making rude comments - crazysob did. Only someone deeply insecure would equate merely owning a Cayman to trolling or bragging. If your e-penis feels threatened by what others own, then don't bother reading.

FACT: you don't own the car. FACT: you don't know what it feels like at WOT. So why do you keep arguing about it? I'm also tired of arguing with pre-teens who think they know it all and have everything figured out.

Dude lives next to RUF. He's ridden in and been around more Porsches in a day than you have in your life time. Try again.

I live next to Stillen and took a bunch of pics. Does that make me a Nissan expert now? LOL.

Man, I'll leave you kids to your bickering. You've reminded me about the saying regarding arguing with fools.

^^ you should take a look in the mirror, the guy you just replied to has more torque in one car than you have in two, he should know what the hell a clutch grab feels like. You're the only one in the thread who seems to have absolutely no mechanical concept of the connections that take place between a motor and a tranny in a high performance vehicle with a decent clutch.

If you actually own a Cayman S, go out and take a pic in the drivers seat with your cell phone, holding a sign that says 'Fuck you Arkaign', in the next 30 minutes (being generous, since AT says you're online), and I'll eat my fucking hat. I happen to think you're a poser. You bought ~$130k worth of performance-oriented vehicles, but not only don't know how a performance high-grip clutch works, you also like to argue on forums about your non-existent rides? Genius.

I happen to own a 2008 Focus coupe, and I'm not ashamed of it, it's a good little ride for what it is. I don't pretend it's fast, and I don't brag when I have had fast cars. I'm in it for the joy like most AT Garagers, not to flamebait/troll the shit out of internet forums.

Doesn't make you an expert, but you don't need to be one to know what a performance oriented Nissan should shift like if you've ridden in any of them.

PS: Buying or owning a car doesn't make you an expert either. Plenty of people own cars and don't even know how to put air in the tires.

I'll be more than happy to line up against your car. I'm sure exdeath would do the same. Name the date and I'm there.

Can I get in on this too? Except I'd prefer a real track, MSR Houston perhaps?

Unfortunately the only racing experience I've yet to get is drag, but if it wasn't so damn far away I'd love a track day (or several :D).

2. Just went out with an unsuspecting passenger for lunch in the Cayman S. I went WOT and when I got to 7th gear, I asked him if he noticed a single shift. He did not. Then I turned on Sport and tried it for 3-4 more runs. You can't hardly tell when the shifts happen, and certainly there is no shift shock as asked by the OP.

WOT all the way into 7th, eh? How'd your passenger react to going 180+ mph? How'd you manage to get the car to go faster than Porsche claims for its top speed?

(All three available rear tire sizes, 305/30R19, 295/30R19, or 265/40R18, when coupled with the car's redline of 7,500 RPM, the PDK's 6th gear ratio of 0.88:1, and the PDK's final drive ratio of 3.62:1, yield speeds in excess of 180 mph for the transmission to automatically upshift into 7th gear at WOT.)

Math. Dig it.

You're just assuming that you're the only person in here with a nice fast car, but those you are arguing with are ex-M5 owners, Tuned mustang owners and Porsche Enthusiast/owners. Not only that, but so far you've been pretty vague on the Cayman's transmission feel and action and when pressured you quoted from the manual.

I, too, would like a 'fuck you DBZ' pic of you in your Cayman, on your drive next to the IS-F.

even my 2 liter 197hp civic shifts hard at wot/redline. i'm sure a porsche with +120hp, 2x the torque, and a much faster transmission is going to have "shift shock"

but i'm preaching to the converted here :D

Current M5 owners as well ^_^
Oh, I didn't argue. Uh...fast cars without torque converters will thump you. Even nice ones.

Fast cars EVEN with torque converters will thump you in Sport mode WOT. Many high end slushboxes have the ability to lock the converter in every gear. About a year ago, I had to get my car reprogrammed so the converter will never lock from 1-2 and 2-3 during hard acceleration because although it would make me accelerate faster, I didn't like the jackhammer feel when it shifted at WOT, lol. I value luxury feel first.

Look at the video of that sub 10 nissan. It has a modified SMG and the inside camera would visibly shake along with the guy's head snapping back every shift.
