I'm going to start at 78 and see how my bill looks, just got central air installed at my house.

All my friends have their AC units sitting indoors; typically on the kitchen table... they keep it on max 24/7 because apparently it doesn't work very well.

Needless to say, I don't like my friends.

Is this a window A/C unit? If so, your friends are idiots. Those things need to be in a window to exhaust the heat they create.

No kidding. You'd HAVE to be an idiot to not feel the blast of heat coming from the rear of one.

Do you pay for the electricity you use? I would bet that this is the deciding factor in choosing the temps we do.

BTW, 75ish.

Aye I do, my gf hates me sometimes because she gets cold. I live in an apartment and those temps, always doing laundry, 6 pcs always on, plus 3 tv's etc my power bill runs between 100$-118$ a month. We flew out to see my girlfriends parents new house last month and her mom kept it on 78 in the middle of friggen Oklahoma. Anyway her dad made a good point, we have AC to be comfortable, we both make great money and there is no sense sweating and being uncomfortable to save a few dollars a month. Thats kinda how I feel.

So i'm guessing you probably drive the biggest gas guzzling SUV around as well?

so much for the planet....

No actually I drive a 04 1500 Dodge Ram ( with a a Hemi) So is it an SUV...nope...is it a gas guzzler yep, but I take the bus to work so I might put 100miles on it every few weeks.. Also, my gf drives an 06 civic that is is averaging around 35mpg atm. So do not come spewing your eco-political, I am better than you because I sweat like an amazon tree monkey all summer crap.

76, although my bedroom is downstairs, so it's always really cold down here and hot in my room mates rooms upstairs which really sucks because they get hot really easily and I get cold really easily.

Yeah, but I shouldn't have to wear a ski jacket in my own house in the middle of the summer...

78-79?

At the office, they keep it around 74 (after I bitched about it being almost 80).

At home, I keep it around 70.

Well, I'm not there so I turn it up so it doesn't run constantly. I live in SC so it gets hot and humid and it would run all the time and I'd rather run it for 30 minutes straight when I get home rather than running it on and off all day when I'm not there. When I get home, I turn it down. If I'm cleaning or something, I turn it down to 75 or 76.

I live in Baton Rouge, so it's always hot and humid. When I leave for work, I turn mine off. When I get home, I turn it on. They reinsulated the roof of my apartment, so it stays relatively cool during the day.

I suppose I could do that. Turning it off during the day. I might have to try that this summer and compare the bill to last summer and see if it makes a noticeable difference. Then again, I don't know if I want my apartment getting that hot during the day. I live on the first floor so the sun doesn't beat directly down on it but I'm sure it can still get pretty hot.

Awesome!
Instead of picking apart other peoples choices, perhaps they should look at their own lives. I don't see them living 100% eco friendly lives. So, what I'm pretty much trying to say to them is . . fvsk off & die.

70 in my apartment. When I lived in a dorm with AC, my roommate and I both liked it freezing, so we set it to "double snowflake". Prolly got down to 50ish or something. I would get back from class, and within 15 minutes my hands were shivering and I could barely type. It was fvcking amazing. It was so amazing at night, getting under the sheets to be warm.

My parents at home keep it at 72. (I'm living in the dorms, no airconditions allowed) I live in the basement at our house, and it runs about 66 F with the airconditioner, and I love it. Sleeping in the cold is so nice.

I kept it at 70, max 72. My total energy bill was only $78 or so monthly.
