Absolute best heatsink and fan combo???

I'm planning on getting an athlon 64 and want it to be cool when i overlcock it. what fan and heatsink cool the best? i like the zalman and i think it would work the best and there like $40 so the rpice isnt too bad, i was looking at some of those wild thermaltakes do they cool any better than zalman or do they just look wierd and thats all?
 
The best hs/f's out there include Zalman's 7000/7700 series and Thermalright's XP-90/120 series. Thermaltake make a lot of coolers themselves, but many of them are pretty B grade and don't cool as well for their size and weight.

I highly suggest you get one of the two brands that I listed above.
 
If you get the zalman, amazon.com seems to offer it at a lower price than anyone else (~$30 for alcu). Thermaltake is not a very good brand, but thermalright's heatsinks are excellent. I'd recommend the xp-120 and a panaflow fan.
 
the zalman all copper version (which i have) is very very heavy. also, the aluminum one isn't that much worse (if not at all) and its a little more than half the wieght of the copper one. excellent excellent cooler! A++
 
Thermalrights xp-120 with a low (1200+or-) rpm 120mm fan cannot be beat for air cooling. Its also much lighter than the Zalmans as I dont like to have all that weight pulling at my mobo especially when you move/travel (with)your tower. The Zalman would probably be my 2nd choice though.
 
thermaltake is not very good brand. (?) But their latest heatsinks are simply the best you can get on the market 🙂

I second this, I'm not a fanboy of any company. I wanted a great heatsink, I did a lot of research before I bought one. And for what I needed, Thermaltake offered the absolute best for me.

You can't go wrong with a Zalman, a Thermalright, or any of the new(er) Thermaltake.

I love my Beetle, big and bad ass 🙂

so true, I mean damn why would somebody want to buy the heatsink that cools the best? I'd much rather get a Zalman then a TT, for the simple fact it's not TT. Cooling isn't most important. Being a idiot fanboy is.

 
ive tried many tt coolers and i found the 7700cu to cool better but this is just what i have found and what do i know anyway
 
Rotate the PC 90 degree when you move. This will place the Zalman 7700Cu directly on top of the CPU, with no shear load on the motherboard. The copper MB/case standoffs will prevent excessive flexing of the board.
 
i was looking at the zalman 7000cu with the leds but zalman seemed so obsessed with everything being quiet that their northbridge chipset cooling piece is just a heatsink, so i was just wondering they'd sacrifice performance for noise. i found one for $34 at http://www.provantage.com/buy-7zalm00t-...-zalman-tech-cnps7000b-cu-shopping.htm
i wish they had the 7700 with lights, does the 7700 cool better than the 7000 when both are at full speed?

edit- but its $43 dollars with shipping so im gonna just go to my local frys. i love frys alot. i love it so much i want to live there and my kitchen would be the cool cafe thing in the middle and i would become smarter than the fry's techs, oh wait i already am, thats the only part that sux abotu frys, the techs are pretty ungood, they said that its really hard to install a zalman on socket 754&939 because theres a high risk of cracking the motherboard, theres a high risk of me cracking the biatch in the face, trying make me pay 10 mo dollars, whateva whateva i do what i want. ok i mdone just bored like a wild boar

Indeed. You really can't go wrong either way. I have the copper XP-90 and it's the nicest HSF I've ever bought. I'm guessing I'd get about the same results with the Zalman.

Best Combo: TT's sonic tower with 2 delta 220cfm for performance or 2 silenx 14 db for silence. Unbeatble - my friend has one with two silenx's and it cool a whole 12 degrees cooler than my system

note: his is exactly te same as mine except for mobo and cooler
 
the thermalrights top the zalmans in every test ive seen. dont be disappointed. the xp-120 is the best air cooling out there, but if you dont have enough space, the xp-90 is almost as good.

There was a recent article on one of the review sites that did a nice comparison between a ton of coolers. The above mentioned hsf's did awesome. There were also a few entries from Scythe that outperfomed even the Thermalright coolers. Seems like the Shogun and Ninja took top honors. Here is the article. Good read.
 
For the overclocks most people achieve with their Venices or San Diegos, the stock HSF is all you need. This obsession with "the best" is useless.

In the wildly unlikely event the stock cooler is the limiting factor, use the standard (non-copper) Thermalright XP-90: it will cool within a degree or two of any of the other top-flight coolers and is light (won't put any stress on the CPU).

Stop worrying; be happy.
