there a reason why you're getting a 92mm cpu cooler when you can fit any 120/140mm 1156 cpu cooler on your board?

Again, going on recommendations. From what I hear though the 2500k runs really cool anyway, will bigger make that much difference?

Not arguing, just asking...

Thanks!

Gigabyte UD3 does not run SLI - e.g., you will not be able to put two nvidia GPUs in there. Given your "three year dream," you should consider that. :) If you don't care, nbd.

I did take that into consideration; thing is I have never done SLI and by the time I MIGHT be ready to, probably some new kick ass card will be out...

Yeah, if you're not going to SLI quickly, you're never going to at all.

Did you really need to create another thread for this? I'm not trying to be picky; just saying the other thread was only a few days old, and could have been bumped.

The choices look good though, as long as you are aware of the no SLI thing, and you could probably do with a cheaper cooler. Personally I would go with G.Skill, or Corsair memory, but that's just my brand preference.

Sorry about that Dpod, I get a little post happy sometime, can you tell?

This was the original RAM, do you think it will make any difference?

That cooler is way overpriced. Get the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ or just go in for a prolimatech armageddon or whatever if you're gonna pay $60.

Hey Axon, someone told me that exposed pipes on where the heatsink hits the CPU can cause alignment issue, what is your experience?

I've never had a problem, but I suppose a flat surface is better. The 212+ holds my SB at 38c idle or so, less than 60c load (two cores are always a little hotter than the other two).

Actually, when including the two fans, that Noctua isn't a bad deal. I always hesitate at any fans below 120mm because I'm a silence freak and will pay any amount for a quieter fan, but that should serve you well.

Also, +1 to the G.Skill RAM.

Yeah, it's nerve wracking and fun at the same time!

One other consideration, would a modular power supply be better for wiring?

That XFX unit you have selected is modular. Again it's probably the best value for money you are going to find.

on a chip that runs as cool as SB, it probably won't make much of a difference with respect to cooling. but for the extra $15 or so, you could have 120mm fans instead of 92mm fans. generally speaking, a 120mm fan will push just as much air (CFM) as a 92mm at a lower RPM, resulting in less fan noise. so if noise is at all a concern, the extra $15 for the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 may be a wise investment.

while i disagree with the above poster that the cooler you selected is overpriced (you get what you pay for, and you don't get what you don't pay for - and Noctua products carry a premium b/c their products' quality and reliability are top notch), he makes a very good point considering how cool SB chips run. in other words, whereas on a socket AM2, AM2+, AM3, or a socket 1156 or 1366 platform it may be necessary to get a top tier air cooler from the likes of Noctua, Tuniq, etc., you could probably get away with using a 120mm cooler in the $30-$40 range and be fine temperature-wise with Sandy Bridge.

For $125 (only $25 more) you could get the Windows Home Premium family pack which gives you licenses for 3 computers.
