That is a LOT of money to pay for a monitor.
I picked up one of the 20" Dells for $750 and overall I think that was a smarter purchase - although I'll admit I am not blown away by its performance. (I was blown away by my SGI 1600 that I bought 3 years ago for $500..and recently sold for $600..)
But, 2 years from now when everyone is making larger displays, I'll sell my 20" for $400, and pick up a new 23" LCD monitor for an extra $450, and 2 years after that, probably something with a considerably higher resolution (I doubt I'd ever want bigger than 23?) for another $450 "upgrade cost."
I'll never have top-of-the-line, but I'll have a new monitor every 2 years for 6 years and I'll be keeping up with technology nicely. I will have spent the same amount of money, but will have the luxury of spreading it out over those 6 years - and theoretically may never own a monitor that is out of warranty.
In short: Been there, done that, got the $600 paperweight - learned my lesson.
