About Dan's assimilation

When it's true, and DAN can crack 500M/week, it could be the end of the distributed.net contests.
Who wants to participate in a contest already won?
Who wants to participate in a contest, without some competition?
Why should dnet start contests, knowing that 60% of the results is done by one user!

I guess distributed.net will "die" when this happens... 🙁

BTW: This is not meant as a Flame, but just something to think of!
This is my personal opinion, and does in no way represent DPC's opinion, and ofcourse nothing against Dan... 🙂

I sure hope that was irony Dan????

you go forth and conquer the world!!! 🙂

With love and respect your fellow TA member

Two-Face

You know DanC, they would think what your doing was OK if you where on their team. :Q
They must be running scared over there. 😉

I personaly would like to see you put my Klinux out of business. 🙂

Let him do his trick, and we will see if the key is found and/or if we all (especially TA members) lose the fun and the competition...
My guess would be yes, if he really would do 0.5 Billion.

I agree 100% with Kilowatt. DSmarty, if you think like that, then don't compete. I sure hope thats not what the rest of DPC's are thinking now.

Who said there should be a limit on how many PC's a person can assimilate? You got a lot of nerve bud. :|

You do mean 500 WU [blocks], not 500Mkeys/sec .. ? This thing is going to be huge. DanC, you're THE MAN! WTG BRO!!

Lets not forget that [aside from stats] the goal of RC5-64 is to show its weakness. If it can be cracked sooner, then all the better.

Let no one be afraid of success!

I mean 500.000.000 workunits per week.
Ofcourse am I scared, but not only for DPC's position, but for all distributed.net contests.
Personally I guess Seti would be better, for that kind of PC-power!

And like I said before, it's my personal opinion, not DPC's.

Zapzilla --> Why do you participate? Do you want to crack the code asap, or do you like the competition, and the lovely stats?

Man, those grapes are sour. Yeecchhh.

DSmarty,

Because I'm a nice guy, and REALLY hate to see you so depressed, I'll explain something. "Burn-in" is not an ongoing procedure.

Russ, NCNE

Russ, I realise that, but when [edited for Dan] 1 server leaves the building another arrives.. or am I terribly wrong?

Anyway, I'm not depressed, I'm always happy! 😉 (I have to admit Russ... I did almost believe you really meant it 😉 )

OK, I guess we'll go ahead and do it then.
These will be high-performance multi-processor servers BTW, not pc's.

I like to think of the program as "my little mega-flush" 🙂

DSmarty,

Perhaps you require further explanation. You quoted a number of 500 million blocks per week. The total maximum capability, if all the machines were running at the same time, is 100 million blocks in 24 hours. Since it is not possible for a project of this magnitude to materialize overnight, that 100 million block total would be spread out over an extended period of time.

There will never be any 500 million block weeks.

Russ, NCNE

When the bar gets raised in any competition, competitors strive to do their best effort, match, or even raise the bar further.

To prophicise the end of distributed challenges & competitions for any reason is stupifying!

Especially in the midst of the 2000 Summer Olympics, where there are several events that could be concidered to be "already won".

Unbelievable!

But...
"my little mega-flush" will produce some pretty interesting results for certain.
Anyone notice I STILL don't go to GOT and make posts?

I suppose I could start - naah, why bother?

[edit] for Adul: "Was that a Trout?"

DanC: Just go ahead, just as mentioned before, the contest is to show that RC5-64 codes are to weak, specially with new computer, including datacenters these days (and special because if you want to hack a secure doc, you would need such computers)

I wish you much luck !

Okay Russ, we'll just see what happens.... good luck...
Chris was in #DPC and he said it would be 500M/week.. that's where I got those numbers...

As always, we would like to thank the DPC members for their input and illumination. You are always welcome here.🙂

Anyone want to talk about trout?
