abortion laws, my view

I don't feel thAT abortion laws are about religion, morals, or abortion for that matter. I feel the biggest issue with this IS WHETHER OR NOT THE GOVERNMENT HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL WOMAN WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR BODIES. I mean come on, even if you're the biggest conservative in the world would you want the government telling what you can do with your body. This country is founded on truths and unalienable rights. Now with this great freedoms are some downfalls but we live with it. We have free speech, this is why I am typing this right now. We also have porn magazines degrading young women. Now I don't see congress banning porn mags, and there is one simple reason, that would be a violation of free speech and wouild beging the downfall of our freedoms. Abortion laws follow that same precedant. First the government tells mothers what to do with their bodies. Next we are all being told what to do. If you give the government an inch, they will take a mile.

To sum it up. By being against abortion laws you are not condoning abortion. What ou are condoning is that we are free individuals and the government will not control are lives.

Pick up a copy of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Read it, think about it.

ISuengineer, you kind of have it backwards. The rulings on abortion do not give the govt. the right to make any decisions for women. It leaves the decision up to them.

It's not just their bodies they are doing something to. Although I don't agree with the abortion of any child (that's what they are, lets not kid ourselves) I do see the some of the points on the pro abortion side. But to say "it's their bodies, let them do what they want" is wrong.

That what I think anyway, and since I'm a man, I guess I'll shut up now!!:D

OK, I was afraid this thread would take this turn and if it gets worse it will be locked!

This isn't about "Woudl you like to have been aborted" this is about would you like the government governing your individual actions.

Abortion is quite a topic of concern in America these days.

There are many opinions out there, so I will just try to help those who are interested in making sure abortion stays legal. Abortion itself should be legal to all women who pursue it.

The NARAL has a really good website. They update it quite often. Around voting time, they even update it with a list of candidates and their stance on abortion. I am not saying to make it the only issue, but you should make it a important one.

The whole point that pro-lifers (and I hate that lables "pro-life" and "pro-choice" btw) is that it isn'tthe womans body. It is a seperate entity.

<< when it comes to murder(which abortion is), yes it should be governed >>

So masturbation should be made illegal too right? you're potentially killing millions of soon-to-be humans.

<< so you own the baby? >>

What do you constitute as a 'baby'? The moment is conceived and the sperm and egg meet? When it's more than a one cell thing? When you can see genitals?

We kill creatures on this planet that is a higher life-form than a fetus everyday, yet people aren't concern about that.

But hey, if it's human life you value so much... how about the government take 90% of your wage (i'm sure it's possible to survive on 10%) so that they can use those 90% for aid to people less fortunate, even in third world countries. Or they could use the 90% tax of your wage to help raise those unwanted babies in a state institution. How about this, would you be willing to be taxed an extra 50% (ontop of current income tax) if the government illegalized abortion?

How is ANYONE impressing their ideas on to you? The starter of the thread simply stated how he felt about abortion. He did it in a very mature way as well, which is a lot more than I can say about the majority of people here that post their views on it.

Most of the time I see "You are dumb because you are Pro-Choice" or "You are dumb because you are a Republican" etc, etc...it is frigging rediculous. Grow up!

where do YOU start calling it a life? when it pops out? so it wasn't one just 2 minutes before? you have to ask yourself that very same question.

Hey! Let's have the old argument over WHEN life begins again!!!

Is it the moment of conception?
Is it when the mom knows she's pregnant?
Is it when the child is born?
It it when you can buy beer legally or what?

Discuss amongst yourselves!

and no, i don't think the government should take 90% of my paycheck to help the people in the 3rd world. i'd like for this country to stop being so damn consumer oriented, so damn ME ME ME ME ME oriented, so damn money oriented, and start thinking about those problems on their own. I should be doing more to help people in 3rd world. YOU should be doing more, too.

but that'll never happen. most people are too friggin selfish.

As much as I don't like abortion and think it's horribly wrong, I do believe I've seen numbers which suggest that abortion rates are higher in countries where it is illegal. You can't really just boil it down to illegal/legal as I'm sure other rates will have an influence, but it does present an interesting dilemma.

Abortion is legal and will be because one cannot argue against it except for the argument of murder. Murder to whom? I ask. And why do you care? I've stood for abortion and have tried to understand the opposite; I fail to find it's value. In fact, whenever this topic arise I follow the arguments and repeatedly end in the stance where I am now, having wavered and even at times lent my sympathy to the "unborned". Why do we care for the unborn when we cheer and jeer on Jerry Springer, carry a psuedo-superiority-complex along with a coat of spine.

I may argue for you that it's the byproduct of selfishness(even though that's not).

The lack of empathy is obvious in the US, and pro-life people argue to save children? Is this the compensation to your indifference?

no more a child than the result of a wet dream.... of course later in the pregnancy there is a point where we can consider it a child... thats a whole nother debate...

Sperm + Egg = Sperm'n'egg not a baby...

Sperm + Egg + months of development = baby

Reality is that noone wants to kill a human being... the problem is noone can be for sure as to when it is a human being... above is my belief concerning that but it is debateable to no end...

We're faced with two choices

1. Since we don't know scientifically what to consider a child... we cannot govern an individuals right to decide for themselves whether it is a baby... and therefore the right to do with their genetic material whatever they choose.

2. We must govern people's choice because we donot know if it's a baby or not... and therefor we may accidentally cause an innocent babies death.

In neither instance are we talking about murdering babies... noone is murdering babies... lets get beyond this... If my wife/ or my girlfriend chooses to have an abortion and you call her a murderer... I'll punch you in fzcking mouth!... that simple..
