Newegg says that the board will be back in stock 8/14...i hope it gets back before the rebate expires on the 16th...

$20 Paypal code expires 8/10. Even thin layer of paste on both surfaces will do the job. No need to deal with AS5. They all yield about the same temperature.

thinking of getting this board or the IP35 since its so cheap and has been getting good comments from users.

It may help a power-hungry GPU. If the GPU has its own power plug, then use it.

What fan are you running on your uppermost HD bay (the one that faces your GPU)?

Is that tape I see that holds the name "IP35-E" (directly to the right of the northbridge)? Looks like Abit got a bit lazy in labeling their product...

Kupe can you do a quick measurement and tell me how tall the stock NB heatsink is? If you could measure from its base at the PCB to the very top of the heatsink, I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Thanks! Yeah, the P182 makes it very easy to hide wires. And I just need a nice blue Nvidia card sometime to complete the look. And yeah, I guess that is tape with the IP35-E text on it.

The 80mm fans in Antec PSUs always spins so slowly that I've never been able to hear them. Especially not when it's on the bottom of the case with a 120mm fan cooling it and keeping it from spinning up.

I have two fans in the upper hard drive bay that probably aren't even necessary, but I wanted as much cooling as I could easily get. They're Yate Loon D12SL-12s that are supposedly the same as Nexus fans. Got them for $5.99 each with free shipping here:

http://www.xpcgear.com/d12sl12.html

They add a bit of of noise to the case, but not enough to bother me, really.

As for the height of the NB heatsink, all I had handy was a yard stick. It said 1.5 inches, so around 38-39 mm. But Bretto said "It's about 44-45mm to the top of the NB heatsink." so maybe I suck at measuring?

It's the same PCB as the IP35 - I bet that if you took off the tape it says IP35 below it ...
Asus at least certainly do the same when they have a common PCB (e.g. Striker & P5N32).

& no, the ATX4P1 shouldn't be necessary but nor should it do any harm.

Position of NB heat sink relative to the CPU socket (center-to-center distance with 8-pin power plug positioned at the TOP LEFT):

X coordinate...+0.9"
Y coordinate...-3.0"
Height of NB heatsink relative to top of CPU socket...1.4"

i've noticed on the ABIT website that the IP35-E does not use their new "Silent OTES" cooling technology. anybody know specifically what that "Silent OTES" adds?

also it says that the IP35-E doesn't have solid capacitors and that it's the IP35 and IP35 Pro that has the solid caps. can anyone confirm this?

edit: it looks like gigabyte has a comparable basic p35 board, same features: 4 sata, no raid, 4 phase power, etc, for the same price (disregarding the abit rebate).
it's called the p35-ds3L. what are people's opinions on it compared to this ABIT board? i haven't been able to find much information online.

Silent OTES is abit's heatpipe technology for chipset cooling.
Solid caps should only extend the lifespan - there should be no performance difference between equivalently specified electrolytic caps.

They look very similar specs - Gigabyte have gone to the Realtek 888 from the 889 on the normal P35DS3 & it still uses the narrower PCB from that.
Still has parallel & serial if you need them but I don't see an HDMI header like the abit if you want that.
Imo the abit will probably have better fan control if that's a concern.

Hey Serpent, back here for help again =P. Can anyone please explain to me how do I use memset to test if my ram is the component holding back my oc? With a fsb of 451 my ddr2 800mhz crucial ballistixs are oced to 902 and I cannot go further. Btw, I run timings of 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v

Thanks for measuring Kupe. I'm glad I got a rev1.1 p180, since it has the raised mobo. Your wiring job inspired me to clean up the lower chamber, so now I'm getting better airflow for my hard drives and PSU :)

its the 4 pin molex plug next to the cpu socket, above the first pci-e x1 slot.

edit: he was referring to me since i asked if it was necessary to have it plugged in or not.

if you have the ballistix that are $70 AR on newegg then your ram should be good to 1000mhz. you've already tested them in your friend's rig and they did 1100mhz so it's not your ram holding you back. think you just got a 'bad' overclocking cpu.

a simple way of bypassing it and to also see your max fsb would be to drop the multiplier down to 6x then start raising the fsb.

Hey guys, I just put together my system with the IP35 Pro motherboard, and everything seems to be running; however, my system is only reading 1 GB of RAM when I have 2X1GB sticks installed. I know it's not the RAM since I plugged the second stick in by itself in slot#1 and the system booted up fine reading 1 GB of RAM. I have also tried putting the 2 sticks of RAM in both DIMM1+DIMM3 and DIMM2+DIMM4 combos. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong, or could I just have a bad motherboard (everything else seems to be running fine).

Here are my computer specs if they would be helpful:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
2X1GB Crucial BL2KIT12864AA804 DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 RAM
Abit IP35 Pro
EVGA 640MB Geforce 8800GTS
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU

Also, if you can figure out my RAM capacity problem, how do you set the RAM to DDR2-800? I know how to set the timings in the bios to 4-4-4-12, but afterwards CPU-Z still reads my RAM as DDR2 @ 400mhz.

if CPU-z says your ram is 400, it is at 800mhz. CPU-z reports it as 400, you take that number times 2 to get the effective speed.

You should probably relax your timings and see how you do. CPU-z reports my ballistix pc6400 SPD at 4-4-4-12 at 400 Mhz, and 5-5-5-15 at 500Mhz. The C2D and C2Q overclocking guide at the HardOCP forums is pretty helpful if you haven't looked at it before.

And you're welcome Chiew. It's nice to hear that my wiring is halfway decent.

You're right I measured again and it is 38-39mm. I guess I'm the one that sucks at measuring. :)

I took the tape off that says IP35-E and on the board under it is IP35.

I don't know if this is the right topic for this, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a northbridge heatsink that would be out of the way enough for a Ultima 90 cpu cooler. I'm sure the stock nb heatsink works fine, but I don't think that I can fit a Ultima 90 in by it. I may just end up going with a artic cooling freezer 7 and the stock nb heatsink, but the Ultima would probably keep temps a little lower. Any opinions would be appreciated. :D

Just some advice, the Freezer 7 doesn't fit either. Well, it does, but the only way it fits is if you turn it so the fan is facing down towards the bottom of the case. If you want to point it towards the back of the case it hits the NB hs. Kind of defeats part of the purpose of this particular HS...

I'll be looking for a new NB HS so I can turn my Freezer 7 the way it was intended to be.

or do a little surgery on the fan bracket.

There are at least 2 people in this thread that said that they got freezer 7's in and facing the right way. One person posted pictures. It looks really tight, but it can be done.

Oh, and one more question about this board. I've been out of the overclocking loop for a while so go easy :p

I see an option in the bios to set the PCI x clock to a certain frequency. Does that lock the whole PCI bus? Ie; I don't want to overclock my big storage drive or my audigy 2 zs.

Do digital cam...yet! Still working with 35mm film. Old Dinosaur. I see 12 caps, with six un-used slots.
