spoke too soon--bios 15 is just 14--re labeled 15. when you turn off standby power to the system. the computer on re-start "looses" all your over clock settings. good bios otherwise--just like 14 was.

what i can't understand is that my biostar pt35d2A7 never does this--nor does my DFi blood iron p35. somebody over at abit needs to go to work on this bios. i think i am going to flash back to 12!

Bios 14 does not lose all OC settings on restart or on cold boot on my system.

It doesn't loose ALL of them. It just resets your FSB to 200 (and maintains all other settings...Vcore, CPU : DRAM ratio, etc). This only occurs if you remove standby power from the MB after shutting it down. Shutting down again, leaving power on and then turning the system back on will restore your settings.

humm!--i may try 15 again and see if i can put up with that little quirk.

No way you'll be able to fit those 4 files I indicated on the disk unless you make a driver free bootable floppy. Get it here:

Dr. Dos

Choose the 3rd item "Driver Free disk for bios flashing" and download drdflash.exe. It will make a bootable floppy without all the extra drivers that take up precious disk space. Then you'll be able to copy over those 4 files.

Thanks Brencat with your help i was able to update my BIOS to 14. However i have another problem below is my specs just incase u need to know

E2160
ADATA DDR2 800 2X2gb Ram
Cooler Master Hyper TX2 Cpu cooler
Antec earthwatt 500

Ok so i set my cpu multiplier to 8 and the external clock to 350MHZ and the Memory to 1:1 Ratio when i check in CPUZ the multiplier keeps jumping up an down to 6,7,9 so where am i going wrong and also ideal my CPU temp in HMONITOR is showing 40 deg which cant be right.

Also another thing is when i set my external to 400, multiplier to 6 and Ram to 1:1 it doesnt start as an nothing comes up on the monitor am i suppose to rase the voltage on the Ram right now it is on 1.85 i thought at its default it should work

Any suggestions.

Thanks again.

In order to drop your multiplier, you need to disable C1E & EIST. I made that mistake when I started out and was advised to reflash my BIOS just in case it screwed something up. Not saying you should, but I did just to be safe.

The E2xxx & E4xxx series CPUs don't really like dropped multipliers + high FSB. I can't get mine to boot > 380 no matter what multiplier I use. It's good up to 350 x10, so it's not the core speed, it just has an FSB wall there; you're probably running into a similar situation.

The Adata 2x2G kit on Newegg is rated @ JEDEC defaults of 1.8v & 5-5-5-18, so you should be fine. Raising your RAM voltage to 1.85 is a good idea as these boards under-volt ~.04-.05.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what is causing this problem? Thanks

Anyone know why this might be happening?

It seems that you r right but most of them who has this mobo and cpu are able to change the multiplier. Other thing is why does the multiplier and ram speed keep going up and down in the cpuz Any idea?

Thanks

As hokie said, definitely disable C1E & EIST which are power saving features. Your E2160's default multiplier is 9x. But when browsing the internet or doing something non-taxing to your system, EIST will drop your multi down to 6. That could be why you keep seeing different total core speeds in cpuz...as the multi moves from 6 to 9 & back down again. Obviously you don't want it doing that while you're testing & OCing.

You will also see a difference in vcore between what you set in bios, versus what you'll see on cpuz. The IP35-E's vdroop under load is about 0.03 - 0.04v, and about 0.015 when idle.

Anyway, when OCing, do the CPU first. Take the RAM out of the equation by setting FSB: DRAM ratio to 1:1. Also set timings to 5-5-5-18 and vDIMM to 1.9v. I also suggest you stick to a 9x multi. This isn't like the Athlon XP days where you wanted to max the FSB. With Intel chips, total core speed is more important. And I'm sure you realize by now that most of these E2xxx chips max core speed is ~ 3.2 - 3.3ghz +/- 200 mhz.

One last thing...make sure you are using Coretemp 0.95.4 beta or greater, as well as Speedfan 4.33 with the 4.34 patch at a minimum, so you will get accurate temperature readings while OCing and Orthos testing. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

Thanks Brencat i disabled C1E and EIST and it worked. One question though lets say one reaches the speed of 2.8ghz by multiplier of 7x400mhz and the other reaches a speed of 2700 by 9 x 300mhz setting is there a real notable difference in day to day life in speed. Discard the 100mhz final speed diff between both asuming both are same speed.

Thanks

try bumping the Vmch up a notch or two. that should solve the problemo! :)

I Just bought The Abit IP35-E MB and I got a problem with it. After about 20-40 minutes of playing games or just some harder work for the computer(like Instaling, sometimes extracting, random situations really) it shows me a blue screen with an error :
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00F0D770, )x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806E484A) after that I have to restart the system.
I also bought RAM DDR2 Geil Ultra 800mhz CL4 2x1024 and a Intel core 2 duo E4500
I have reinstaled Windows Xp Profesional Sp2
I really hope you can help couse I see you know a lot about computers and Motherboards:)
Thanks

How should i do this. I mean i think I know where (BIOS) but should I change anything else? It will be my first time to chenge voltage or OC, so I would be really gratefull for Simple Instructions. Thank you in advance.

If you haven't already, clear CMOS and load optimized defaults while setting your RAM up; like so:

Remove power from the system.
Hit the power button to discharge the capacitors.
Move the CCMOS jumper (or switch) to the clear position.
Wait ~30 seconds.
Place the jumper (or switch) back in the normal position.
Restore power and boot up immediately into BIOS.
Select "Load Optimized Defaults" and then Go into SoftMenu Setup in BIOS and set 'Voltages Control' to 'Manual', then change 'DDR2 Voltage' to 2.1v (the middle of your RAM's operating range).
Save & Exit.

Is it really necessary to do this with the jumper? It's the first motherboard I've had where supposedly you should do this after updating the BIOS version. I always thought the "Load Optimized Defaults" was all that was necessary.

I always CCMOS after setting up a system for the first time and/or flashing, always have. Lots of people at the abit forums recommend doing so as well. It may not be necessary in 100% of the cases, but it can't hurt and takes a few seconds to complete.

It happens randomly.

Hi guys my CPU temp at ideal is 44 my current settings is E2160 OCed to 8x350 = 2.8ghz with 1.4V going on CPU and i have Cooler Master Hyper TX2 i am little concerned is it normal temp or should it be down and how much?

Thanks for all your advise in advance.

That's a bit high at idle. Depends on your room temperature somewhat. For comparison, my BT idled (before I lapped it and added a better fan) ~38c @ 3.1GHz with 1.405Vcore; now, with the OC in my sig and those changes it idles ~35c. The stock cooler idled at 44c when I was @ 3.0GHz and 1.365Vcore.

Did you use the paste that came with it or did you use AS5 or similar? What are your load temps? Where you're at isn't a cause for concern but high idle possibly indicates high load. Check your load temps with Orthos and see what you come up with.

Hi hoiealumnus my load on ORTHOS is around 68-71 as far as paste goes i dont know which company it was but i took it from my work they use it for P4 CPU. Do you think that AS5 will make a diff?

Thanks.
