@jared, I believe you'll need at least bios 14 if you are using the E8400. The board most likely shipped with bios 11.

...which probably means he'll need to find a non-penryn chip to borrow in order to be able to flash...

Yeah that sucks jared. Hopefully you can find a way to update the bios and your new cpu should be up and running!

Well guys i was able to set my memory to 4-4-4-12 and it booted up fine now things is in the CPUZ the specs doesnt come anymore for the Ram. Is this a problem and also is there a program to check if the RAM is working fine on that settings.

Thanks

Did you click on the Memory tab in CPUZ? Your new memory settings should be there. If they are not did you save the new settings in the bios? Use Memtest86+ V1.7 to test if your memory is stable, and then Orthos or Prime95 Blend setting. I wrote a mini overclocking guide for my son for this MB and posted it for Tungfree a few pages back in this thread, use it in conjunction with Graysky's overclocking guide.
And please post your system config, CPU, CPU speed currently running, ram divider, etc.

My board came with V13 and my 8400 booted and is running no problem what so ever. I have even only had the dual boot once so I'm not going to even both to flash it until they get a version that can read the temps right.

I just set up my IP35-E with a new E8400 processor. I have Maxtor 200 G IDE drive. I was able to install XP SP2 without any problems. It restarted too (for the first time) but XP got stuck as i was installing a driver for a wireless pci card.
Now the PC won't boot up. The last things I see on the screen is "Verifying DMI Pool... ". Doesn't move any further.

If this being cause because of a double boot issue?
Can someone tell me if I can update the BiOS using a USB thumb drive? Based on the discussions here, I get that I should be updating it to v14. I don't have a floppy drive so please help.

Thanks for reading.

Try clearing CMOS.

Yes, you can update the BIOS from an USB drive.

I did clear the CMOS. No luck. I will now try to update the firmware and see if that would help.

OK, when you cleared CMOS did you reset the RAM voltage?
Depending upon which exact Corsair that you have it may need more than the JEDEC 1.8V to run at it's rated speed.

Yes I did change it to 1.9 V and didn't help. Now trying to figure out how to update the BIOS. I don't have a floppy and this thing doesn't seem to boot from USB. Anyone know any tricks?

Fixed the problem by running FIXMBR & FIXBOOT from XP Repair. Also updated the BiOS to v14 using a USB disk. I think I am all set for now, at least till next week when I start some overclocking fun.

Bios version 13 is the one with so many problems that Abit pulled it from the download page. Lots of IP35-E bios chatter on the Abit socket 775 forum. I'm happy with bios 12 for now.

System Properties is wrong. The reason Windows shows 3.42ghz is that it thinks you are using the base 9x multiplier programmed for that CPU (instead of the 8x multiplier you are really using) x your 380 FSB to get 3.42ghz. Nice to see the lack of attention to detail from XP has carried over into Vista

Also, is that Speedfan 4.33 with the 4.34 patch? Just want to make sure your load temps really are 43c and not 58c (15c offset if you don't have the patched version).

Edit: Sorry, just noticed you have L2 stepping, not M0. Temps are fine. 15c temp offset would only apply to M0 stepping

I'm having problems - building anotehr system

Abit IP35-E - Intel E2160 - HP 4GB Ram - Antech Earthwatts PSU

Problem is I installed the stock cooler with arctic compound on the CPU - the idle temp right now is like 54 C after 30 min of it just running sitting in BIOS - that seems real high -- so I took off the cooler - reapplied the thermal compound -- heard the clicks - still temp is around that -- I'm not sure what the problem is - is this temp accurate - or maybe BIOS needs to be updated? I'm not sure - the BIOS I have right now has double boot issue.

It has 1 major problem & that's the RAM voltage setting. (it's still on the ftp just not linked)

when running in the BIOS the CPU can't access features like the system idle process etc. so it is running at a very high rate hence the high temp.

how much paste am i suppose to apply - a thin line on the CPU or heatsink - i think i had too much - i cleaned it all off after a hassle using nail polish remover.

bloody hell - im tired of this crap - i applied the thin line of paste - the temp just kept on jumping up - i reapplied after cleaning by spreading it out using intel heatsink - temp is at 49 C

im seeing the temp in the BIOS

49c in BIOS is a reasonable temp. With the OC in my sig I get 47c in BIOS. A thin line of paste is the right way per AS and is what I use. Remember, your CPU is under 100% load in BIOS so it'll be warm.
