I just got an Abit A8V, a 90nm A64 3000+ and 1 gb Mushkin Basic memory (2X512). I also got a thermalright XP-90 to keep it cool.
Installation went great and the first time I started up, it started with no issues except that I had to change the threshhold on the warning beeps for slow spinning CPU fans - no big deal.
In both BIOS and Motherboard Monitor, I have not broken 40C, so everything is staying nice and cool.
Here is the wierd thing. If I do a warm boot (restart) it has no issues. However, if I do a cold boot (shut down) and then immediately try to restart, it tries to boot up and then shuts off/restarts and then tries again and shuts off/restarts and tries again and shuts off/restarts, etc. It does not follow any pattern of how long it runs before it restarts - anywhere from 1 sec to 6 sec. The only way to break this cycle is to kill the power from the power supply.
If I immediately turn the power supply back on and try to start the computer, I get the same issue. However, if I leave it off for 10 min or so, the computer will start up no problems.
I can only think of two possibilities (since its not heat). Either I have some sort of static buildup (is this possible?) or I have a short somewhere.
Anyone have any ideas of where I should look or what to do about this?
