looks like the change over is fucking with their cable boxes... reading an SNL thread on a different forum and a bunch of cablevision customers (including myself) lost all live signal on their cable boxes (though I can watch NBC fine on the tv in my bedroom that doesn't have a box)

Still on for me...Chicago area.

Cablevision is the only one they decided to mess with. I hope CV stands firm..the networks are out of control. If all the cable and satellite providers stay strong...live online content will be a fact much sooner

oh boo hooo, now they can't watch the academy awards.. don't blame cablevision, blame abc for greed just like fox tried to pull with time warner last year.

my guess is channel 7 will be back on the air in 24-hours when they get 50% of what there asking.

CV is actually very greedy. Recently they had a dispute with scripps, in which CV basically said channel slike FOODTV, HGTV, and their HD channels had no value, and wanted them for next to nothing and refused the budge.

That is not fully true. The provider of HGTV and Food Network dramatically increased the rate they were charging providers. They also determine what channel lineup those channels are part of. That means that they wanted more money per customer and they wanted to make the providers force those channels on more customers.

I'm not saying that cable providers don't make a lot of money....I'm saying that channels like these that people consider "basic" cost them a lot of money and they have to pay to have those channels broadcast to people who don't want them.

This ABC/CV battle is a new beast. Cable providers are obligated to provide local channels to all their customers but ABC was trying to force CV to pay, something that they didn't have to do before. I'm not sure what the FCC will have to say about this but it would be great if this were the start of a change in TV service that will finally get some kind of ala cart programming for customers or at least show the networks that they aren't nearly as important as they think they are.

I am very curious to see if the Emergency Broadcast System plays into this at all...

As long as it comes back by 9pm Tuesday, you should be good to go.

They added HD, and were being paid next to nothing by cablevision before. Cablevision pays not 1 penny extra for FoodTV HD and HGTVHD, but I bet they charge you extra to get it. The so called dramatic increase was moving from next to nothing to something reasonable. They still are paid far less than other channels with similar view counts.

Please provide a link that supports your claim that CV does not pay for Food Network or HGTV.

Who the hell watches ABC anyway?

Does ABC still show Disney movies Sunday at 7PM?
That was the one thing I always looked forward to. That disappeared 8 years ago when we got cable, later went to college, and lost almost complete interest in TV though.

And of course Peter Jennings.
News isn't the same without him. :(

From news reports. They don't pay extra for HD channels over the regular one. I was saying they don't pay 1 penny for FoodTV HD ontop of regular FoodTV.

That part is true...HD comes with standard channels but its completely off the point of this thread or my posts.

I agree. I grew up with Peter Jennings in my living room.

Was a shocker when he passed. A sad day indeed.

I actually posted the news here on ATOT. I do believe it's actually my biggest thread ever.
