I don't think I'd rush to the ER unless its getting worse by the minute if you follow me, nothing against ER doctors but they tend to be much less experienced and plus you'll likely end up waiting for hours & paying through the nose... if you have a regular doc you trust then I'd suggest getting to see him/her tomorrow at the latest... today if you can pull it off.

Edit: Just a thought... you may well have docs listed in the Yellow pages that specialize in bites/stings out there since a desert climate has lots of stinging critters running around..
they would be able to tell you IF its a bite/sting, even if they couldn't say exactly what did it.

problem is, I don't have a regular doctor.
Ever since I moved to LA, I never visit a doctor. The only time I went to a clinic was for my college-required Hepetitis and some other shots.

Hit the clinic then... the ER will be there if you need it & even though I'm sure its not pleasant, I seriously doubt its life-threatening.

mind if i ask, you have experience in this "spider" field?

Boils and carbuncles
  • Every year, millions of Americans seek treatment for skin problems. Although most skin conditions aren't life-threatening, they can be uncomfortable and emotionally distressing. This is particularly true of inflammatory conditions such as boils and carbuncles ? painful, pus-filled bumps that form under your skin when bacteria infect one or more of your hair follicles.

Boils usually start as red, tender lumps. The lumps quickly fill with pus, growing larger and more painful until they rupture and drain. Although some boils disappear a few days after they occur, most take about two weeks to heal.

Boils can occur anywhere on your skin, but appear mainly on your face, neck, armpits, buttocks or thighs ? hair-bearing areas where you're most likely to sweat or experience friction. Sometimes boils occur in clusters called carbuncles. Although anyone can develop these painful infections, people who have diabetes, a suppressed immune system, or acne or other skin problems are at increased risk.

You can usually care for a single boil at home, but don't attempt to lance or squeeze it ? that may spread the infection. Call your doctor if a boil or carbuncle is extremely painful, lasts longer than two weeks or occurs with a fever. In that case, you may need antibiotics or surgical drainage to clear the infection.

I have a huge collection of Tarantulas (46 at last count), 7 giant Centipedes & a dozen Scorpians, plus I read a lot ... the most dangerous things I have are actually the Vietnamese Centipedes which supposedly have caused deaths & my African black-tip scorpian which has caused many death in Africa, no actual degree's on the subject if thats what you mean though.

Now, call the doctor, k?

Sounds like a spider bite. They usually have what appears to be bruising where the venom is introduced. No worries though because if you're of decent size, you'll live. It would be a good idea to either see a doctor or look online for treatments just in case. I've had a few of those in my lifetime and they take a few weeks to heal up....it usually is just sore for a while until your body can clear out the toxins.

DOH!!! I just tried to 'pop' it like a pimple.

puss didn't come out as I'd have expected. only a few drops of blood.

My parents had to put down one of their horses because of a brown recluse bite on its leg... after a month so much flesh had died around the bite that the limb was useless. So, uh, hope that's not what yours is. Might want to go to the emergency room though.

Just go to the doc tomorrow... if blood came out of it, its not likely to be a necrotic lesion from a spider bite, its more likely to be an impacted boil or somthing like that & its getting infected... pus takes awhile to build up & also you may have squeezed it IN not out ... tonight try putting really hot compress's on it (as hot as your skin can take w/o scalding) & when you go to bed put a bandage on it with some Neosporin ointment or similar.

andy, if it's serious, you need to go to the doctor NOW and not look for home remedies. you could be asking for trouble by refusing to take heed to the advice that other folks are offering you in this thread.

I am a stubborn person, as you can see: I am only listening to one who advises "You don't need to goto the hospital" and completely ignore the others.

i appreciate your's (and everyone else in this thread) concern. I am fine now. I took some antibotic and hit the sack at 8:00 last night. the pain is still presisting, but in a much lessor degree compare to yesterday.

I like how you gambled because you didn't want to go to the doctor. That mindset will work throughout your entire life, right up until you get something that's easily curable in the early stages, but fatal once you wait too long.

Sorry, but that mindset baffles me. You've got something that's been getting progressively worse over a period of days, and yet you feel no need to at least get it checked out by a school nurse or something?

Can't wait for the day when your stubborness cleans you from the current gene pool.
