Aaah... Moto Racer. The 3d accelerated game that started it all for me...

While everyone else probably got hooked onto hardware 3d acceleration with GL Quake, I remember my first experience with real 3d was the Moto Racer game that came packaged with my STB Riva 128. The incredibly bright colors, the blazing speed... it absolutely floored me. The game single handedly convinced at least 3 other friends to also jump on the 3d bandwagon after they saw it. And to think it was done with Direct3D back when everyone was slamming it and praising OpenGL and Glide.

Anyways, I found my old copy of it while looking for stuff to try out on my new 21" Trinitron and loaded it up. Kinda funny, it demanded your desktop to be 16-bit color before it would start. Aaaah, the good old days.

Anyone else have a non-Quake first 3d accelerated experience?

nope, glQuake for me 😛

tho i loved Motoracer too 🙂. Turboing as often as possible while trying not to scrub.. ah that was fun..
wonder where i put my copy...

LOL, you didn't happen to buy a Compaq Presario did you, RagingBITCH? My old Presario came with those games along with a 4 meg PowerVR 1 (!!!) and it did not impress me at all. In fact, that's why I ended up buying the STB Velocity.

My first 3d game was Microsoft Flight Sim 98

on a Diamond Stealth 3D 2mb

I still have that card laying around somewhere...

I did not get a decent machine until a bit later - it was Quake II (and a rather marginal D3D racing game called Redline Racer) that first took me over. My computer was a PII-233 with a Diamond Viper V330 w/ RIVA 128.

oh dang
i love motoracer..
i think im gonna start playing it again
it had a bad ace soundtrack too

I had a kewl flight sim on a 286 back in the days. Then I went a while without a comp and got Motoracer with a Diamond Riva128(X?) and sold them both to a friend. Loved the motocross laps!

*hehe* The same here!

Moto Racer was my first game that I bought (the only game I bought?)
Played it on my VoodooRush card! Fired it up on my 868MHz P3 computer, damn it run fast with speedhack and fps-limiter off. :Q

Actually it was Hexen II which I got when I got my very first 3dcard, a Orchid Righteous Voodoo card....That was a LOONG time ago!

Xwing vs. Tie Fighter on a P2-266 w/Viper V330. Ahh the memories. I loved destroying the SSD on the last level of balance of power 😀

Yeah, loved MotoRacer. I only had the demo but I think I played that one track a few hundred times.

GLQuake started it all for me though...I saved for months and months to buy a Voodoo1 for my P100. My GOD i was in heaven....those were the days!

TombRaider with Matrox Mystique...
Then again with Orchid Righteous 3d...

but damn MotoRacer is the game I fire up every time I upgrade my computer 🙂

I used to play each track in MotoRacer for hours, trying to improve my best times by hundreds of a second. Ah good stuff, till I discovered Quake3.
