sure... but compare an overclocked a64 vs barton. i'm pretty sure that my 2.6 ghz a64 can beat the crap out of a 2.6 ghz barton or even a 2.7 ghz barton.
i say go for the 754 socket a64... they have a roadmap planned for at least the a64 3700+ and i think they'll possibly due more of course depending on the demand for these chips...
They are moving the A64 over to the 939 chipset once it comes out, so 754 A64s are gonna stop being produced before the end of this year. I'd probably wait for the 939 boards...especially for when nvidia releases the NF3 250 for the 939 chipset

. The 939 will have better memory support (like dual channel) and will have more options for A64's in the future (like the A64 4200+ and beyond, compared to 754's 64bit future ending with the 3700+). Once the 939 boards are out, there will become support for 32bit cpus on the 754s, so I imagine the 754 will become the new nForce 2 and the 939 will become the new 754 in a way...so we get the better of both the 32bit (mmm, integrated memory controller for 32bit systems

) and 64bit (mmm, dual channel for 64bit systems

) worlds.
