DeafeningSilence - There are at least 50 if not more Canon A40 owners among us, poll.

No need to call it RossMAN approved unless it's bundled with the appropriate Quizno's meal.

Another option is, if you can hack up some basic HTML with pictures, links to reviews, FAQ, etc. I will be more than happy to host it.

Very nice work, Vic! Nice shots, especially that sunset!

RossMAN -- Maybe hosting a couple pages would be really handy. Links to reviews and stuff we could just put here in the forum, but hosting our own FAQ, as well as some of the best sample shots taken by our own AT members, would be very sweet!

I am the complete opposite. I love AAs. I have 20+ AA 1600mAh-1800mAh batteries. I love them.

Same here, I love AA's. Yes the Canon lithium ion rechargeable battery is definitely superior BUT what if you forget it at home, lose it, break it or it loses power and you have to wait for it to recharge? I have 20 or so Panasonic AA 1600 mAH's thanks to BigLots (4 for $4.99) and CostCo so I always have a handful of AA's ready to go. Besides if you're really in a bind you can always go to the store and buy alkaline AA's right off the shelf.

Convenience.

I know there's a lot of A40 users here but I have to say, I love my S200. I looked at the S230 but I like the size of the S200 better. I just throw it in my pocket and go. The s230 is slightly bigger.

The image quaility I've found to be amazing. I'm a little disappointed in the vid quality but oh well, that's not why I bought it. The flash works VERY well to light up indoor scenes. I haven't experimented with night shots yet though, or any advanced controls. I just like the fact I can always have it on me, so if I see something like this I can snag a picture. I got that one at walmart yesterday, then shrunk it down with photoshop. The original is 1600x1200, a little big for just sticking on the web.

oh man i love my A40. its the perfect size.

i looked at those small toy cameras. with them you have to watch how you hold them. witht he A40 i dont worry so much about blocking a picture or droping it.

now all i have to do is figure out how to use it besides just take snap shots! heh

hmm, this is such a hard decision for me. everyone seem to be siding with the A40 and reason seems to be due to its size and battery type. So far, i only have 1-2 people recommending the s200. I am kind of leaning towards the s200 because of its size and the deal they are having at OM right NOW. But after reading this thread, i don't know what to do :(

It's a personal thing. My father had an older digital elph and I LOVED it. The idea of just putting it in a pocket and going was what I needed. I wanted a camera that was ALWAYS with me so I wouldn't miss something I thought was cool. That's what the S200 is to me. If I wanted to take professional pictures I would have picked another camera, but I don't. I want to take good pictures to show my friends and family, and I want the camera to be WITH me. If it's bigger you decide not to bring it because it's too bulky and you miss something unplanned.

It's all what you want. The quality on the two is similar. See if your friends have them to try out. If you can't find anybody, go to Best Buy and toy around with them.

s230 is the same exact size as the s200. the s330 is bigger if that's what you're thinking of.

Hmm, possibly. I know one guy on my hall who has another digital elph but it's noticeably larger. I don't like it as much.

I bought the s200 for my Dad for Xmas and he really likes the small size - it makes it easier for him to carry it or my mom to just toss it in her purse. I just bought one for the same reason. The image quality is pretty much the same as the A40 and it is smaller and easier to carry around.

Yup. I'm going to give my OM a call in a few hours....

*crosses fingers*

Actually, which do you think would be best for outdoor stuff? Skiing, etc?

okay guys, i have made my decision...... i am going to get the s200, just because its convenient and its pretty cheap right now. I am sorry to all you A40 lovers out there, plez don't hate me, we are still in the canon family.

okay, now, lets talk about problems of the cam.
i have visited reviews, and i noticed that people always comment on the flash of the s200 is not good enough in dark places. hmm... is it that much of a problem to consider?

Ok, I tried this the last time someone took a pitch-black pic and 15-second exposed it into a daytime-looking pic of their kitchen table. I'm sure some of you remember that.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how. I set the exposure to 15" and flash-off in Manual mode (M). I point it at objects in pitch-black darkness, click the button and orange lights blink on the camera for 15 seconds... then stops blinking... a few seconds later, it shows me the pic... complete darkness. I know it took a pic okay because I can barely make out a white outline of something I know is supposed to be there. It just doesn't seem to be doing its thing with the 15" exposure setting.

How are you supposed to do this ? What am I doing wrong ?

id like to know as well. i took my a40 to this place where my friends' band was playing.. lighting was bad.. so most of the pics came out dark.. had to go up to the front near the stage to get 1/2 decent pics.

rh71, here's my guess: The miniscule amount of light in a dark room needs to be exposed in the exact same spot for the 15 seconds in order to be visible.

Use a tripod, or set it on the table.
