A small request from the ECCp-109 Team

This is an open letter to the AnandTech Forum Moderators:

As you all probably know, Team AnandTech is running in various Distributed Computing projects.

The ECCp-109 project is coming to a close, some predict that it will end in a period between November 2002 and February 2003.

After a long run at the number one spot, the ECCp-109 TeAm is currently in the imminence of losing 4th place to Ars Technica Team Vodka Martini.

After a few weeks of recruiting in the Distributed Computing we've come to the conclusion that we need to expand the recruitment threads to other Forums. We're asking permission to run them.
Not long running threads like the ones for the S@H race against DSLR, but four little threads running for a period of two weeks in the following forums:

- General Hardware
- CPU/Processors and Overclocking
- Software - Applications, Programming and Games
- Off Topic

Thank you for your time,

Nuno Alves

Maybe I missed the meeting but why only those 4 forums? I definitely like the idea (and its great we are actually asking permission). :D

Probably because those are the only ones it is in any way relevant to - it's not really a Hot Deal nor Highly Technical nor has it anything to do with selling/buying..etc etc.

Makes sense, but there are usually S@H threads in OS and Net too, just curious why we were leaving those out, not a complaint :)

I don't think that we should bother some of the more technical Forums with this request.

That's why I only requested to post in the above mentioned Forums.

Why, what makes them so special? I would think that those in thew more technical Forums would have access to morer resources than those in Hot Deals or OT. If you are going to bother the Nefs it seems only fair that you bother the Geeks!:)

I'm only thinking of bothering the nefs in OT not in Hot Deals.

As for asking permission to place some recruitment threads in the Operating Systems & Networking Forums, its simply a matter of choice ;).

Hey I really don't care, it just seemed a little strange that you would ask to recruit in OT and then say that you wouldn't want to bother those in the Technical Forums. I guess it's alright to bother those in OT.

With some of the posts that sometimes float in OT I don't think that anyone will feel bothered with a recruitment thread for the ECCp-109 TeAm.

I'm just asking for permission, if it's denied I won't around and post any recruitment thread outside the Distributed Computing Forum.

I just feel its right to ask for permission before bending the Forum Rules a bit.

Probably not. I also think it should be alright for the others but you are the one who's asking. Sorry if I seemed to be too critical.

I think we should post in as many topics as is possible! The ones in OT will drop from view within a couple of minutes, and we'll just get totally flamed by some of the narrower minded individuals :)

We are struggling to maintain our position in the top 5 ECCp teams and could use some help to overcome the likes of Ars Technica, the Dutch Power Cows, Team Weazy at Team-TNT.com, and TechIMO. We are trying our best to keep up with these teams but at our numbers we can't keep up. If could run just a few threads to get some more members then we could work towards regaining our former spot on top of the ECCp world.

Thanks for your time.

Do they have that many more members than you?

Come on Mods.

We are doing the decent thing here by asking instead of going ahead and just posting topics. At least have the coertesy to reply! :)

Hmm ,has anyone here read the SETI thread in DC about racing S@N? ,in there many people state it hasn't been long enough since the last recruiting threads to start more ,& on reflection I'm inclined to agree.
Many people there were talking about doing it in June/July time ,maybe then we could do a general all round recruiting threads for TA rather than just SETI?

Assimilator1,

I kind of agree with you on this but IMHO it will be very difficult for those threads to be general Team AnandTech recruitment ones...

These threads most of the times degenerate into small Flame fests like my DC project is worthier than yours and my dad owns a bigger car than yours, etc.

So I keep on asking can we or can't we post small recruitment threads over other Forums around here?

Thanks everyone for their support on this thread and to Red Dawn and Assimilator1 for widening the scope of this thread.

Nuno Alves

EDIT: Just a minor language correction...

I think it would be a good idea.
TeAm AnandTech is being owned in ECCp and it's just not right :disgust:

Well it's been some while since I've seen a general recruiting thread but the last ones I did see were very civilised ,I've been around for a while so I have some idea;).DC members usually avoid flame fests between each other in general when it concerns TA.
As long as no one slags off another projects multiple team recruiting is possible ,often if a new members is not interested in project X he will do project Y instead ,TA as a whole gains:).
Also you will tend to find that TA members will stick together if a non DC member slags off a particular project ,it is more likely that a non DC member will flame in a recruiting thread

Hey mods ,they want an answer:)

I think general recruiting threads down the road would be nice, but we need help in ECCp now. We are losing ground day by day and it is going to be that much harder to get it back if we even can before the project ends.

Please let us know.

Thanks :)
