now, we actaully have only 7 planets! under the guidelines set for a planet and the reason that pluto was demoted, neptune shouldn't be consdered a planet either. lucky number 7.

LOL at the responses.

Dammit, took them 76 years to figure that out? Where are my tax dollars going!??!?!

It's not a matter of figuring anything out, but mere definition. It's not even legitimate science unless the classification scheme was interfering with research.

Dear Pluto,

You'll always be a planet to me.

Love,
me.

:brokenheart:

Dang it. 😉

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune... NO Pluto. 🙁

You got it wrong there!
Jupiter is the 5th planet from the Sun not Saturn!

At least he got the number right 😉.

I question the timing of this announcement. Clearly this is meant to distract us from the global warming on Mars.

I was just about to say that. "Pluto is automatically disqualified because its oblong orbit overlaps with Neptune's." Logically that means neptune is also disqualified.

Pluto got WTFPWND! So glad they banned that big ass pos rock from the planets list. Was getting ridiculous how they tried to mark every piece of rock as a planet.

Me too! OMG no!

Light zee torches, grab zee pitchforks. We shall storm zee castle and stop zee madness!!!!!

..had no idea Pluto had anything to do with Scorpio....😀

Let's send out rockets with warheads to nuke all the Plutons. It will serve as a good message for any aliens watching that we have WMDs and will use them.

maybe cuz plutos orbits goes into neptunes and neptunes doesnt go into plutos??????

I remember as a child wondering why they decided to call it a planet. It didn't act like the other planets... it's smaller than Earth's moon... It always seemed to me like some stray hunk of rock that got caught in the Sun's gravitational field. If you drew a nice picture of the orbits of the planets in the solar system on a piece of paper (not to scale, of course), you'd have a problem when you got to pluto - The other orbits would lie on the paper, Plutos is at an angle of (17?) degrees to the paper...

Hurray! About time they corrected this earlier "mistake" in science.

Those who will be attending any Science/Astronomy or anything that will reference pluto/solor system/number of plants in any small way:

Get ready for new Book Editions that will fsck you in the @ss at the price of 150$ per book, since you can't buy them used!!

I just found out the democrats think Bush had something to do with this

Since he could only remember eight planets he banned Pluto because by the time he got to it his attention had wandered to such diverse topics as chopping wood and chuckling blankly at random pseudo-babble that his unconsious is manifesting in a self defense mechanism so he doesn't consciously realize that he is a major dufus.

MMM bombastic diatribes late at night are my favorite.
