OFFICIAL AROD STATEMENT:
Text

After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.

Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.

As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.

Cynthia and I have since spoken directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the Yankees over the next few days.

several MLB teams will not even consider a player if they are associated with Boras.

Yeah, but Arod is Boras's pride and joy.
He stands to lose a ton of money if he doesn't negotiate the contract.

I've been following this throughout the morning.

Quite an interesting development. The Yankees are screwed without him next year, so I was pleased to say the least.

Feinstand and Lupica are both reporting it, so the rumors hold at least some weight.

None of us knows what happens behind the scenes, but from the outside it sure looks like Boras overplayed his hand this time playing hardball, and his client is going to lose. When A-Rod get a new contract for less than what he currently would make per year, that's a big blow....

What I don't understand is, instead of agreeing to meet face to face without his agent etc, why not simply fire the agent and hire another (more reasonable) one? That way the Yankees will negotiate, and A-Rod has some smart representation....

why do they refer to it as below market? if no one is willing to pay arod 350/10, then that isn't market rate. and i don't think anyone is willing to pay that.

I hate this guy, he's the reason Arron Rowand won't stay with the Phillies. Greedy fucking low-life.

I agree, I think they just mean below the asking price.

true.

but I hope A-rod goes to the Mets :)

then perhaps he can go back to being un-evil again.

so long as Boras doesn't ruin the Mets like he does every other MLB team that he deals with.

EDIT: Boras represents Pedro, doesn't he?

The Tigers have benefited by this stance and scooped up a few of his clients.

I wonder how it works, I'd assume Boras requires a contract for his services and ARod could be breaking it by trying to pen a deal with the Yankee's without him?

I'd imagine his other option, the Dodgers, weren't willing to pay nearly as much.

Personally I think AROD should retire. He can then offer his services up in the second half to the highest bidder. Then he can work on a longer term contract from there if he's actually productive. Seems to work well for Clemens. :D

No, Pedro has another agent.

John Sterling is on WFAN saying that it's a done deal, Arod signed with the Yankees for 10 years/$275 million.

How did ARod going to the Yankees make him "evil"?

You do realize that:

a) The Yankees weren't the one to give him that massive contract (in fact, the $16MM a year they owed him wasn't bad at all).
b) That your beloved Mutts have done the same thing the Yankees have over the years - buy, buy, and buy.

The only difference between the Mets and the Yankees is that the Mets manage to play second fiddle to the Yankees year after year.

It's been a while since I've seen so much BS in one statement. Sounds more like no other team wants him, so now he hopes he can return to the Yankees.

I will say that this move does kind of stink of a Boras plot to jack up the offers for A-Rod... We'll see what happens.

I actually think that Boras overplayed his hand.

Most likely, but I'm not ignoring the possibility that Boras is being a shady bastard...

This whole convoluted drama is starting to irritate my bowels. If he seriously goes back to the Yankees he needs a good line drive to the crotch on opening day. I'm so sick of him and his 4000 pound pile of elephant dung Borass trying to milk this thing out since game 4 of the World Series. Just get away from my coast and go play for the Dodgers, I could at least stomach the uniform he wears there.
