I say he's worth about half that, if even that. :Q

He played his hand perfectly.

ARod opts out of his 3 year extension, Boras starts honking the "$350 million" horn, and now the Yankees feel like they're getting a bargain signing him at $275 million when no other team could even come close to that sum.

On top of that, ARod is now a "good guy" because he signed with the Yankees for less than his overinflated market value.

ARod was never going to sign with any other team. You think he wants to end his career like Bonds, with record-breaking stats but no World Series rings?

Just curious...what do you base that on?

The man drove in 156RBIs last year and hit 53 homers. Not to mention the fact that he singlehandedly carried the team through April.

Oh wait, you must be basing that on the fact that you're a Boston fan.

Just think of the revenue he'll bring in when he's breaking Bonds' record.

He still sucks in the postseason, he's getting old, and the yankees should be buying more pitchers.

He gained absolutely nothing.
The Yankees offered him that before he opted out.
They refused to talk to the Yankees for less than $350 million.
Yankees said that if they don't get the Texas discount (if he opts out), then they would not enter into free agent negotiations.
This would reflect that discount.
Arod makes that deal without Boras.
Boras got outplayed.

Shouldn't redsox fans be happy that the yanks resigned a-rod? He's a guy you love to hate, he chokes in the postseason, and he's expensive as hell

He actually played quite well in the postseason this year. He's 32 and has been healthy his entire career, plus he has the DH to fall back on. Finally, there are no pitchers out there to buy. One could make the argument that this deal opens the door for a Santana trade, as the prospects who would have been traded for a third baseman can be reallocated.

Heh, you know he'd get more than half of that from just about every team in baseball - so I guess he's not worth half of that. He is "worth" whatever someone will pay for him.

No pitches for sale?! You mentioned Johan, I'd say that is one nice sale item! Add to the list E. Bedard. If the Yanks get both of those guys, I'll be a very happy Yankee fan.

Which pitcher should they sign this offseason with that money they are spending on A-Rod?

Santana is not a free agent this year. They could TRADE for him as rpbri2886 said, but it doesn't look like the Twins are dealing him right now. They have a new stadium opening and they need to have some players.

I don't think Santana or Bedard are realistic options. However, a deal for the D Train from Florida could possibly happen.

I think the book is out on that guy at this point...

Johan does not want to stay in Minn, he's said it over and over. I've also heard that Phil Hughes, Melky and Kennedy mentioned for Johan. We have bats to spare, so I think losing Melky wouldn't be too bad. Losing Phil and Ian is a bit daunting though. Now...how do we get Erik Bedard?

They are not trading Hughes or Joba. Kennedy is a slight possibility, but they really want to hold onto him as well.

Perhaps he came to the realization that yankees are the only ones who will even come close to a deal he wants. No one else is willing to put down that money.

I haven't heard an inkling about Erik Bedard being available, and if he is the Orioles won't sell him cheap to an intra-divsional rival.

Besides, I'd rather keep Phil with his upside than get Erik Bedard.

He's only been pitching for 4-5 years. And he had an off year this year. He's stilla hell of a pitcher and would come alot cheaper than either of the aforementioned.
