The biggest downside to living in the Midwest is the lack of quality seafood let alone in walking distance. I'm jealous but congrats on the option!I love fish & chips. The local fishmonger does a good job with it, and I can walk to them from my house.

I have yet to go but have heard that A Salt and Battery in Manhattan is quite good.We had a great fish n chips place in Manhattan called St. James gate. Been going there for years but not since covid. decided to go last month and the menu is gone. They were serving sandwiches and crap like that. Claimed their gas is off but its been like that for months apparently. I miss it.
The best fish and chips I've had was last year on a ship.In 2012 an innocent visit turned into an addiction. Since then I always have to search out a place to get my fix if we're by a large body of water

There's still exactly one, in Northeast Ohio. There were a handful in northeast Ohio until 5-10 years ago but now there's just the one. I probably should hit it up sometime soon in case it closes.Who remembers Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips. They were a medium sized deal back in the 70's and maybe 80's.
I found one outside of DC years ago, but waaaay after their heyday. Might have been 2004, but I can't remember. I was on a job, went out for lunch, and couldn't believe it when I saw them. I had to stop in of course. Everything was a little decrepit, but it was decent in a fastfood sort of way. I wonder if they're still there? I couldn't find it again if I tried. There's still exactly one, in Northeast Ohio. There were a handful in northeast Ohio until 5-10 years ago but now there's just the one. 631 of them according to wikipediaThere used to be another fried fish chain called Long John Silvers that had quite a few locations most of which are now long gone. (there is however one in Hartford CT)
Far as I can recall the place wasn't very good either.
As far as I know the one in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio is the last open location. It made our local news when the only other location closed a year or two back since that's now the only one in the countryI found one outside of DC years ago, but waaaay after their heyday. Ha fair enough. The biggest seafood downside. I rarely order any because it's almost always disappointing and/or expensiveFuck no, the shit weather is the biggest downside.
Hmm....the fish looks good but plantains? I mean I like them but I would probably be disappointed it wasn't chips\friesI have a new favourite Pescaderia just a couple of miles from our place up in the hills
2lbs of Pargo with fried green plantains
