How would I send some stuff from Turkey? There's a U.S. military base near where my parents live (Adana, Turkey - Incirlik Air Base). I can send some DVDs and books in English.

Should be quite simple infact, we order supply goods from Turkey. Just mail what you have to the address posted. And thanks for thinking of the service members.

is there a way I can send stuff from Belgium?

Incredible thread. We just moved, and have uncovered tons of stuff we've decided we don't need anymore. I'll see what's suitable/useable to send!!

Found a good pile of magazines of all sorts - I'll see if we can hit the stores and get some of the other items. Great sticky.

FYI... if you have trouble getting to a post office during business hours like I do, the USPS will mail you flat rate Priority Mail boxes in 10 or 25 unit quantities... then you can print postage yourself online and use USPS drop boxes.

Jeff, don't forget that anything that goes overseas, even to APO/FPO addresses, has to have a US Customs form attached to it, so doing the drop box idea isn't going to work in this instance, since that Customs form has to be hand-stamped on every copy by the postal worker that mans the counter at the post office.

Depending on the weight will depend on which form they make you use (think that's what determines it, not value). Also a good idea to insure your packages for a couple hundred dollars, especially since you never know what sort of damage it could see (and insured boxes always seem to get kicked a little more gently, ya know?? 😉 ).

I should have 4 or 5 boxes going out by Saturday, at the latest. 🙂

Hey everyone...

It's been a while since I have posted an up date so here it is. Of the boxes I have received thus far have been handed out and messages sent to the senders. I am currently trying to help out a platoon of GRUNTS that lost all of there belongings in a fire. I think I can round up enough hygene gear, trying to get my hands on anything not nailed down to send there way.
It's getting hotter which makes working on projects out in the sun very hard but doesn't stop us if you know what I mean.

Once more thanks to everyone for the support and anything that you would like to send our way will be given to the troops of all services. Please remember to write your forum screen name on the packages so that I can identify you and say thanks.....

Take care and enjoy your 4th of July...

Simper Fi.........

Any kind of books will be fine, please keep in mind we cannot have any porn what so ever, yeah it's one of the rules. All of the books are put into a make shift reading room. Everyone has access to them, this way everyone on the base can enjoy the books, you know larger croud concept. Thanks for think of us and we will take anything you have to send....

Hello everyone...

Just a simple up date... I just had a platoon of GRUNTS lose everything they owned in a fire that destroyed there quarters. I wanted to let everyone know that if they sent boxes to me I will for the time being giving everything I can out my hands on to these Marines. Clothing, computers military gear it's all gone....

Simper Fi......

P.S. Hope all of you have a wonderful 4TH of July and drink a cold one for us.....

Grunt03, tell all your guys and gals a Happy 4th of July from all of us here, and remind them that we're thinking of them. 🙂

Hey, if anyone's been looking for a good reason to help these Marines out, here's a great one!

Today's newspaper (July 6th) had the monthly P&G Brand Saver coupon insert in it (at least, for where I live.....and likely many other locations!). I found a buttload of coupons in there for the toiletries items that have been requested (see Grunt03's list on the first page), and plan on combining those with my Walmart's everyday prices, to send out another care package soon! 🙂

Seriously, folks......you have no idea how much a care package in the mail can bring the spirits of these guys & gals up, and remind them that the folks at home haven't forgotten them.

marvdmartian - I just wanted to say that I have received all of the packages and the items have all been handed out. In about three minuted everything was gone. The impact you made with the boxes truely increased the motivation of all service members. Speaking for all service members that received the items, we thank you very much. Please look for a PM about an idea I had to say thank you....

Simper Fi....

Grunt03, more boxes coming your way! Poor fellow at the post office plumb got worked to death when I walked in!!

Hey, a bit of info, for those wanting to send your old magazines to these marines. I found out yesterday, the hard way, that the postal service's media mail does NOT cover magazines! Seems because of the advertisements, they won't allow it.

My suggestion would be to either use one of the flat rate priority mail boxes, or fib a little on the customs form, and tell them it's "bound reading material".....you know, books!! 😉

A friend called today and asked if I knew anyone over there to whom she could send a care package so I gave her your name, it should be coming from Florence, South Carolina. Not sure what it is but hope it helps.

Grunt03,

I have 4 trunks of humanitarian aid (cold/temperate clothing and Beanie Babies). Do you have a contact that I could send them to? Perhaps an S-6 contact. PM me with their .mil address. Thanks for all you and your troops do!

[Edit: the recipient gets free black, plastic trunks (as sold by AAFES)]

Just letting everyone know that these care packages are a god send to those overseas. I'm 21 and have been in the Navy for over 3 years now. I've made 2 deployments over to the gulf and everyone always looks forward to "mail call." Thank you for putting forth the time and effort to brighten up our lives.

I mailed 2 boxes today, and I will have 2-3 more out tomorrow.

Thanks for all that you do. It is appreciated.

Any ideas on what kind of sporting equipment would be good? Horseshoes, Frisbees, Badminton sets, footballs, etc?

-KeithP

I sent a football, basketball, soccer ball, volleyball, cones, two air pumps, and ping pong paddles and ball. I would imagine they could find a way to use all of them.

Hey, do you have a list of your movies? I know a place that sells nice quality used DVDs for cheap, I'll see if I can improve your selection. Any specific requests?

LOL, I'm an ass. I never noticed this thread. I think I tune out ATOT stickies and the couple times I glanced at this randomly I figured Grunt03 probably had a cousin in an online beauty content and needed votes or some stupid shit like that.

Anyway, I'll get a couple packages together.

Come on man what are you saying that I'm ugly or something? Thanks for anything you can do to help out the cause.

I got in on a weird deal at Walgreens and basically got a bunch of free movie tickets for buying Axe (body wash). The movie tickets have already basically paid for themselves, and I've got WAY more of the Axe than I can fathom using before getting sick of the smell; Marines use body wash or does everyone take showers with Lava 😛?

Also, can I send a Priority Mail Flat Rate Box for the same flat rate to a military address?

Found a bunch of Gillette Fusion cartridges; I use an electric now so they're of no use to me. Except these are useless without something to put the cartridge on...
