A Reminder...

Just because the Half Life 2 thread has been so crapped up and crapped up so fast, I've decided to post this here because the chances of it being read in that thread seems far too low (because I doubt everyone reads every single post in such a long thread).

All I want to do is put down some of the overly hyper ATI users who are now practically cheering (yes cheering) for a business company with the goal to earn money from people like you.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm an ATI user as well and could not be happier with the performance I could have expected from my 8500 and I've yet to upgrade from it.

The only thing that really irks me is reading all the posts from ignorant ATI users who now seem to be celebrating as if they've won the lottery and narrowly escaped death all at the same time and then instead of merely just praising ATI for a job well done, they feel a need to attack nVidia. WTF for? Chances are they may end up back on top and you'll just have to switch sides again if you wish to have the best performance.

I'd just rather not have all these ATI hypocrites posting here if they can't even remember incidents such as THIS where their own beloved company was seemingly down and out and recovery appeared to be the impossible. Well if you review that article (an article from the very anandtech.com many of the ignorant now use to attack nVidia) you?ll see how down and out ATI seemed to be and yet they pulled out a miracle of their own, why cannot nVidia do the same today?

Again all I say is give these players some time because people demand far too much of the impossible merely to be ?satisfied?, my next card very well may be an ATI (and I?ve been planning on upgrading to a new ATI for quite a while) but this does not mean that nVidia has been defeated once and for all, I expect them to continue on and even to succeed in some terms in the long run.

I must agree. Sorry if I sometimes have been too enthusiastic. ATI today NVidia tomorrow.... competence is needed, but rules must be followed.

The maturity of that thread hit rock bottom when some of the posters started ti jiz on themselves.

Cold reality is that its gonna suck for them also having to run at 10x7 and barely getting 60fps.

Looks like we all will have to upgrade to play multiplayer.

oh and WTF is up w/ a $9.99 a month charge to play on a lan.

Valve just keeps digging that hole deeper and deeper.

Agreed. Competition is needed to keep both companies coming up with new solutions and better products for consumers. And we can reap the benefits.

TD

nvidia is in no way shape or form in as bad of a situation as ATi are was in when the 8500 was getting whomped on by gefroce 3's. there is a new line of cards soon to be released and thus a new battle for king in the near future. when the new cards from ATi and Nvidia hit do u think anyone is gonna give two $hits about 9800 pro vs 5900 ultra???

My big problem with nVidia right now is all the image-quality hacks they are putting in to cover for the gf5 design flaws. And the cycle of being caught followed by denial, lawyering, and/or bribes.

My current card is a gf3, and I routinely recommend a gf4 to anyone wanting the best card for around $100. Until the gf5's actually came out I assumed my next card would be a gf5, probably a fx5800. After that debacle, I hoped they'd get things right with the fx5900 but they're still embarassed enough with its performance to resort to the "optimizations."

I hope you're right shady06, in your guess that the nv40 will be good enough that they can finally get back to honest drivers with the image quality I'm paying for in a $500 card. If I upgrade before then though I'll probably (reluctantly) buy my first ATI card instead.

I also agree that ATI is only being honest (by comparison) right now because they can afford to be. But regardless of why, right now if you care about fps and image quality it's ATI that is offering the combination.

ATI today NVidia tomorrow

Agreed!

Computer geek fanboys of today were the same personality types that were prime candidates/targets for cults of the 70's so no surprise there 😛

I`m sure Nvidia will bounce back, they are one of the main competitors in the graphics field and yes we need both ATi and Nvidia to stay around.

I actually own both Nvidia and ATi products and see them both as good choices for the gamer, yes some models are better then others but as we know staying as top dog now is getting harder by the minute.

Some of the comments I`ve seen and read are very immature, some border on flaming and it`s just best to ignore, long live Nvidia and long live ATi ,that way I`ve more choices for my future cards 🙂.

The only way for us to have high-quality products AND decent prices is for there to be competition in the marketplace.

ATI has been the "obvious choice" for many months now. With the recent reduction in price for the 5900 non-ultra, there was finally a battle going on, and now this debacle might blow it all.

Be disappointed in Nvidia, but don't be too happy with ATI. This will only encourage them to take it easy, which leads to buggy drivers, and expensive video cards that never come down in price.

Be thankful that Nvidia is a solid company that can weather a bad period and still be there to compete in the future.

Oh yeah, support AMD too!

Unless you have a LOT of stock on one of the comanies I see little reason to get worked up over what either company might be doing with their R&D, I just wait until the cards get to the market (even look at some of the rumored specs/early previews to get myself pumped for what might be the next wave of gaming) and then I wait and see what might be best for me and my gaming. I just never have understood the fanboyism. And truthfully I believe it merely boils down to people buying products priced too much for their own comfort and then look for a way to defend their purchase. Unfortunately one of these ways to "defend" their financial decision is to attack an opposing company and any users that might use/defend such products.

Conclusion: It's just the silliness of the insecure.
