The problem is that your children have no discipline, because you allow them to run around and do the business everywhere like wild dogs.
You make him understand what exactly he is doing, and if he does it again, you make him do the cleaning. 3 year old or not.
Just because he's a child doesn't mean there's no rule.

<< Cheerios in the toilet for target practice >>

hey, that is how I was potty trained. and it worked!

My mom just left a little cup of them in the washroom...i'd aim at them when peeing and munch on them when taking a dump. This apparently got me trained in no time

I used to teach a 2 year olds potty training class at a day care. I learned that the kids who used pullups never got potty trained and could not move up with their classmates until they were potty trained. The other parents used the old fashion plastic pants and they work so much better. Y'see the kids dont like to be wet and they dont make the association if a diaper or a pullup is worn. Plastic pants are a pain in the butt for the parents, but in the long run they work so much faster. Good luck. I'm glad I dont have to worry about this right now. =)

Well thank you Dr. Spock. Talking to him, and making him clean up, why did that never enter my mind? You have opened my eyes to a whole new world, I feel light as a feather.

<< He makes small gorilla warning noises when I approach him to put his clothes back on, and then he screams like a banshee the whole dang time. Methinks the struggle for control has already begun. >>

Methinks it has already been determined.

I'm special.

I never had to be potty trained. My parents bought me a potty but I didn't want to use it, I just went right on the real toilet instead. No problems!

Isla,
I'm going through the same problems with my two boys. The now 4yr old refused to be potty trained until one magical day. He knew what to do and where to do it. He just didn't want to. He woke up one morning right before he was 4yrs old and was completely out of diapers with no accidents. Now my youngest is about to be locked up in the bathroom with only food and water slid under the door and isn't going to be allowed out until he uses the toilet for something more practical than flushing Legos down it only for me to disassemble the stool to unwedge them from the plumbing. If they're stubborn about it, one day they'll just become trained and never look at a diaper again. I'd try cherrios in the toilet for the youngest, but fear the older one will just drag him in there when my back is turned, dump a bunch of cherrios in the toilet, hand the youngest a spoon and then tell the youngest "Try it, Mikey Likes it" Patience is a virtue.

A true father who knows his kids!

Bill Cosby is right.... you don't fully understand what it means to be a parent until you have more than one kid...
