I spent most of my lunch hour glued to a very fuzzy TV watching this in horror.

One thing I noticed-they reported next to nothing about the Petagon, and no pictures. Anyone know what happened there? A coworker has a relative on duty there.

Also, any further news about the plane that went down "at or near" Camp David (quoting original FBI statement)?

I whoteheartedly agree with those who say curb the wild speculation. Remember all the calls to get those towel-heads after the Oklahoma City bombing?

I wouldn't complain if drafted.

Notice how Bush/etc all immediately started criticizing the "faceless" terrorists and "cowards"? I agree, but I just wanted to know if anyone else noticed that...

we ALL feel for you guys - from the UK:

A sombre and visibly shaken British Prime Minister Tony Blair said the world's democracies must "fight this evil" perpetrated by suspected terrorists in the U.S..

The British prime minister cancelled the speech he was due to give at a meeting of the Transport and General Workers' Union in Brighton, southern England.

Blair said: "I am afraid we can only imagine the terror and the carnage. Many, many innocent people will have lost their lives."

He went on to describe mass terrorism as "the new evil in our world today."

Blair said these sort of attacks were "perpetrated by fanatics, utterly indifferent to the sanctity of human life."

He added that the world's democracies must come together to "fight this evil and eradicate it from the world."

Queen Elizabeth II sent a message of condolence expressing her "disbelief and total shock."

from cnn world messages: CNN (not bogged down)

joemamma, i'm sorry if i offended you by stating how our government works, i'm going to give blood and thats all i can do to help right now, if i was the leader of the greatest country on earth i think i would have a little more power to do something

I don't think the Camp David crash was confirmed. All the confirmations are 2 jets into the WTC. 1- 727 into the Pentagon, and 1 flight downed outside of Pittsburg.

amish

Trust me, the Pentagon is hard at work coordinating our Armed Forces in preparation for resolving this situation. That is why you will not see any further information about the Pentagon at the moment.

He added that the world's democracies must come together to "fight this evil and eradicate it from the world."

That is very encouraging and nice to hear. Thanks for the post.

<< Very well worded GetReal. We as Americans will prevail no matter what. We always have. >>

thats a pretty cocky comment considering we just got B!tch slapped by somone we don't know. but no matter what, even if America prevails what about the casualties in that process. Do the ends really justify the means? we need to find a peaceful solution to all this. The trouble with terrorist attacks is that they are nt centralized physicaly so we can't nuke them like a country.

is it me or is it true that the WTC would have the highest concentration of foreigners anywhere in the US. so these terroists not only killed a lot of americans but a lot of foreigners as well.

don't most UN officials have offices in the WTC?

<< wasnt England attacked a few years ago, by bombs? >>

yeah. We have constant problem with the Real IRA and the like. Canary Wharf (one of our tallest buildings) was heavily damaged in a bomb blast.

Lay off politics for now.
If we keep bickering between ourself then the terrorist have achieved another goal (dividing us).
Let us just calm down and unite !
the enemy is out there.
We don't know who did this horrible act.
but it might be Palestine and Afganishtan.
so I say just level those 2 countries and be done with.
let's just send them to hell !

Mo0o, I respect you, but you really think a couple of crashed planes can cripple our country?

Impossible.

(unless they're carrying a lot of nuke cluster bombs)

Also, if anyone remembers the Gulf War, it is common practice to publicly demean the attacking parties in order to invoke a response. No one, no matter how resolute in their actions, will stand idly by to watch a world leader refer to them as cowards. They will naturally react and tell someone of their actions.

it's cool.

it's just my opinion, but i think it's totally inappropriate right now for anti-bush statements.

Australia feels for you also:

Acting Prime Minister John Anderson has joined the worldwide condemnation of the apparent series of terrorist attacks in the United States.

"Australia expresses it's absolute horror at this truly appalling and senseless act of violence in the United States," Mr Anderson said."<FONT face=Verdana>
</FONT>
"Australia extends its sympathy to the families of the victims and the nation as a whole."

Mr Anderson said it was not yet clear what the motive behind the attack was.

"Australia will do all in its power to assist the United States," he said.

A spokesman for Mr Anderson said Prime Minister John Howard, in Washington for talks with US President George W Bush, was safe.

He said Australian officials were holding talks with their US counterparts to discuss whether any extra security measures would be required at airports in Australia.

Inbound flights from the US would continue as normal, while arrangements for a United Airlines flight bound for the US this morning could be changed, he said.

that makes a lot of sense to me ?!!?

Hell America won its freedom with guerilla fighting, which is far from face-to-face. They are cowards for attacking civilians, that is why they deserve to be slaughtered.

That's a distinction I can feel okay with - you hit on exactly what I was thinking, but I left it unsaid hoping some people might realize it as well.

It is a romantic notion of war that leads to a belief in a "fair fight." We've all seen too many John Wayne movies. Sure, we have some rules, but they are and need to be very basic. Otherwise, you are tying your own hands when your opponent feels no such constraint. If your opponent wins, does it really matter if you fought fair by your own standards? Your descendents will be ridiculed, oppressed and crushed because you failed to realize that you are not in some movie - in war there is one goal and one concern: win.

Win because you are right. Win because you cannot afford to lose. Win because if you do not, more will suffer and die. Win. Period.

(Granted, this all presupposes that you are in the right and fighting against oppression - which surely cannot be true for both sides.)

kyutip

i'm w/ you. someone needs to pay and i refuse to give up our hard earned freedom, freedom to roam about our airports etc. i refuse to change my lifestyle which our forefathers fought to protect because of a bunch of terrorists. just kill them make lessons of them and be done w/ it. no pansy footin around. and if this was an act of american militia, let them know that they have declared war on the govt and people of the US and wipe them out. if it is american militia responsible for this they forgo their rights as american citizens.
