Piracy is not going away, the industry just needs to work around it, or with it. Make movies free in crappy resolutions, but sell in higher quality, leave them in theaters longer, sell merchandise on the movie, etc...
Though, out of all things, movies is one of the things I agree the less with pirating. I prefer just paying and seeing it at the cinema, or getting a good quality "original" copy instead of a rip. The cost is usually not that bad anyway so I'm willing to pay for a good movie, and probably will buy/rent movies when I have my own house. (Now I hardly every watch movies or TV)
Now when it comes to software, I get zero issues with piracy, because the companies try to rape you. Microsoft licensing is the biggest scam ever. They rape you from every angle. Not like I"d ever be able to afford it anyway, so they're not really losing my business because I would never be a customer.
Music, well, artists don't get anything other then a few pennies per cd anyway, its all the mega corporations such as the RIAA that do. I would rather download mp3's, if I like the music, send money to the artist directly via paypal. If I was a music artist I would publish my songs online and accept donations, and if I made it really big, have concerts. Music is art, not a product, but the US idea of it is that it's a product, and you have to sell it. If I create something, whether it's a drawing, a song, or a video, I don't want to sell it, I want to show it to people, let them have it, etc.
