a man defends his home in NYC with a firearm and is not charged!

A homeowner in Brooklyn shot and seriously wounded a would-be burglar early this morning, police said.

Larry Goldstein, 62, of Mill Basin was awoken shortly before 2 a.m. when he and his wife heard noise downstairs.

He grabbed his licensed revolver and went to investigate when he saw two intruders brandishing guns, sources told The Post.

Goldstein opened fire hitting one intruder three times while his accomplice fled.

The wounded man, identified, as Alexander Manigat, of 371 E. 35th Street in Brooklyn, was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to his torso and one time in the arm.

Manigat was placed under arrest.

Goldstein, a retired schoolteacher, has not been charged.

Neighbors praised Goldstein’s actions.

"If somebody were to break into my house and try to harm my family, there's very little that's gonna come between me and my family" local resident Mike Reinhardt told WPIX. "I hope the perpetrator is hurting [and] he learns his lesson so he can share his story with other people about breaking into other people's houses."

Police said there had been several break-ins and home invasions in the neighborhood in recent months.

in brooklyn ny of all places!
oh em gee!

wow 3 hits, I wonder how many shots he fired.

If he went 3/3 that's pretty good for a 62 yr old!

A Brooklyn homeowner awakened in the dead of night by the sound of prowlers grabbed his gun, walked downstairs and blasted one of the intruders, police said.

One burglar got away, but the other was in critical condition with three bullet wounds after the botched burglary in Mill Basin on Wednesday, police said.

"I'm all shaken up," said Larry Goldstein, 62, a school guidance counselor turned teacher.

"I never expected to have a break-in, and I'm happy that nobody was hurt in my family."

The burglars broke into the rear of Goldstein's E. 64th St. home and entered the basement around 2:30 a.m.

Startled awake by the clatter, Goldstein went for his licensed .38-caliber revolver.

He said he was "very much" frightened, but driven by "protective instinct."

"It was just seconds, when I found them in my house," he said of the confrontation just outside his bedroom.

Cops said suspect Alexander Manigat, 30, aimed a starter pistol at Goldstein, who fired three shots, hitting Manigat twice in the midsection and once in the arm.

Manigat - who has eight prior arrests, including some for burglary - was under arrest at Brookdale University Hospital.

He was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon and possession of burglar's tools, police sources said.

Since the gun was legal, Goldstein won't be charged with a crime, the sources said. Under state law, a homeowner may use deadly force to thwart a burglary.

Manigat's mother, Celine Antoine, denied he was a burglar. "My son knows better than that," the former auxiliary cop said.

Antoine said her son was preparing a résumé for a job interview when a heavyset friend with a goatee showed up. She said she fell asleep and does not know what happened after that.

Antoine said her son was 4 when she came to the U.S. from Haiti and had a rough life that included stints on Rikers Island, being stabbed five times in 2004 and thoughts of suicide.

"He said, 'I want to end this life,'" she said.

LOL, right mom. son is innocent. of course.

He obviously should have called the police, who would have been there in under 10 minutes. They could have kindly escorted the intruders out, and nobody would have been hurt.

well, if he had a shot gun, then both of them would have likely been killed. 🙂 Shot Gun Win!

Of course the homeowner was not arrested or charged with a crime. Simply because he did everything legally right unlike other fool homeowners with guns who do not.

Notice when the accomplish fled, the homeowner did not try to chase him. The homeowner was allowed to use deadly force because the perps had guns in their hands. But had the homeowner kept shooting after the perp was disarmed, it would have been a different story.

Up until the Supreme Court ruling striking down the Chicago anti-gun law this old man would've been arrested and put through hell.

Sad he didn't kill the bastard, now the fucktard will sue and own everything the old man had anyway.

🙁

My babies didnt do nothin.

LOL

Only fail in this story was caliber used...don't know what it is but I'm sure it's .380/9mm as none in history has survived 3 hits with a .45 and lived off the state penal system after. Besides why make animals suffer? That's just inhumane.

Utter crap of course. There are hundreds of incidents of people being shot multiple times with all calibers of weapon, even rifles, and not only living but going on to fight effectively. Hell, look at the Officer Borders incident where after blowing off the suspects foot, and landing 6 center mass hits with .45 gold dot the sob was still putting up serious fight. Or Mark Coates with 5 center mass .357s. Or an infinite number of others that can be found in 30 seconds of googling.

There is NO such thing as guaranteed stopping power. More likely, yes, but NEVER definite.

He grabbed his licensed revolver

He must have been grandfathered in or something nearly impossible to have a licensed firearm in nyc.

lol @ the comments.

Thank goodness the perp is still alive. We cannot afford to lose a black person to violence. They have contributed so much to society as a whole, serving as role models of personal behavior and setting new standards of familial integrity. These gentle people's academic contributions are exceeded only by their intrinsic drive to better themselves through hard work.

yup, i wonder if bloomberg will have anything to say about this.

I wonder how mad Bloomy is today? A citizen and his second amendment rights protected his family and property with a registered handgun. I wonder if the two bad guys had their gun licenses on them when the cops arrested them? I’m sure the bad guys followed Bloomy’s crazy gun laws just like the guy they wanted to kill. Good job! A point for the good guys and a warning to the bad guys, us good guys will kill you if you want to hurt our family. Bloomy will be out soon and I bet some new gun laws will be coming that make it easier for the good guys to protect themselves from the pond scum type that attacked this nice family.

Are those boys sitting in prison today? No they are dead. My point stands.

Which is bullshit. If someone is on/in your property without your concent, you shouldn't have to second guess their intentions. That's how home owners get killed.

Personally, I like states that have laws that allow you to go after the burglar/theif if you believe the property taken can not be retreived otherwise.

i like states that have laws where you can defend your property no matter the circumstance, and this includes when they are trying to flee.

you know once they escape, even if empty handed, they're going to target another home the next day.
fuck that shit. one less scumbag on the street is always a good thing.

I wonder if that is a joke page or is he really is interested in men.

Seems out of character for a burglar, but hey, you never know.

How would you know? You've dated male burglars? 😵

Lame. Not sure why race is an issue. Like a white dude never committed armed robbery? Shit I would if I were hungry enough. I expect you to shoot back too. But Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Well nice to know there's still some sense up North. In the UK he'd be in jail... oh wait in the UK the robbers would have killed him and his family while he waited for the coppers to show up. Never mind.

That little snipe out of the way, kudos to the guy. If I lived nearby I'd buy him a beer.

doesn't .45s have massive recoils that hampers accuracy and stability? also I'd say at that close range probably a shot gun is more effective.
